Default 49ERS have told teams that a trade for Smith has been reached and official March 12.

@JasonLaCanfora: The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Any potential deal cannot be finalized until the new league year begins on March 12. La Canfora does not know the acquiring team, but lists the Chiefs and Jaguars as "two teams that make sense." Both NFL.com and Yahoo Sports have reported in the past three days that the Chiefs were Smith's most dogged pursuer. Although his arm limitations were as evident as ever last season, Smith would be an acceptable stop-gap option in Andy Reid's West Coast offense. Smith isn't expected to fetch more than a mid-round pick.

KC seems like the most likely spot to me.

Sounds pretty real

I feel pretty sure it's KC and feel sure it will not be the #1 overall pick...but the first pick in Rd 2 may do it.

...I could see the first pick in 3rd round but first pick of SECOND? Seems high to me. I mean, that's virtually a first rounder. No thanks. By the way DFWFC, I am NOT from Dallas nor do I live there now.

The Chief's don't pick 1st in the 2nd round, so that'll take some more maneuvering.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

I'll admit, I just assumed they had it due to having the first pick overall. Apparently Jax has it, and KC has pick 34.

I highly doubt anyone traded the 1st or 2nd pick in the 2nd round on Smith.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

For his sake, I hope Alex does not go to the Jets and that circus.

He's still under contract? I thought they signed him to a 1yr deal last year.
