FWST: Cowboys now roughly $6 million over the cap, must make moves to get back under
Clarence E. Hill Jr.
The Cowboys made a plethora of moves last week to clear more than $20 million in salary to get under the 2013 NFL salary cap of $123 million.
But the decision to place the franchise tag on linebacker Anthony Spencer, guaranteeing him a salary of $10.6 million next season, has put them back in the red.
according to a source, the Cowboys don't have to re-do Romo to get back under the cap. They can do it by going to back to their initial restructuring plan of a week ago when they adjusted the deals of linebacker DeMarcus Ware, tight end Jason Witten, center Ryan Cook, cornerback Brandon Carr and receiver Miles Austin to clear more than $20 million in cap room.
The Cowboys have verbal agreements in place with nose tackle Jay Ratliff, guards Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings and cornerback Orlando Scandrick to adjust their contracts to clear cap room. The Cowboys can also turn to backup quarterback Kyle Orton.

Nice detail here by Clarence.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

The OP referenced Clarence Hill, but I agree with you about Watkins.
There's always more to the story.

Oops on the Watkins mistake.
Mike Fisher's source was Stephen Jones. He has the Cowboys 600,000 under the cap.

Not happy about where hey are and how they're operating
Reworking deals to further bind them to bad contracts like Ratliff and Scandrick while giving leverage to the agents for both Romo and Spencer in negotiations.
All this to keep an 8-8 team together.
Do not like.

I agree but the only other option is basically blowing the whole thing up. I think the team really feels they are close and they may be right. They haven't been blown out very often, even by very good teams, in the past few years. They simply have made too many mistakes to beat good teams in close games. If they can solve that issue, maybe they are a contender.

Yeah-let's do what the Eagles do every year cut everyone, than sign as many FA's as possible...wash, rinse, repeat...still no Super Bowls.
If the Cowboys stay healthy and have a good draft they will make the playoffs next year.

Congrats.
This post has absolutely zero basis in reality.
That took some skill.

I don't think it has to be to such extremes.
How long has everyone felt we were 'this close' and it hasn't come to pass?

What is clear here is that we aren't in some desperate situation. We have several options for getting under the cap but don't like making moves unless we have to.

I don't see how keeping a team that was one win away from the playoffs together and improving by having a good draft is not based in reality. The division winner isn't going to be building through the draft or FA because they traded away their first two picks this year for their hurt QB and have a cap that is 12% lower than the rest of the league.

My comments were in regard to the comments about the Eagles.
They were inaccurate.

Do tell.
Tell me all about the tons of free agents the Eagles always sign and release every year?
I'm all ears.
Of course that will take some thinking and some work so expectations are not high.
Not to mention a whole lot of blatant fabrication.

You will not get an answer from him. Because there is no validity in what he said.
