Default A message from Petitti's Dad...

this comes from the Pantherlair board...

"first off, thanks to all pitt fans for the support and encouragement you have given rob during his career at pitt. rob is ecstatic and completely thrilled to have an opportunity to play for a great franchise and a storied coach and owner. after suffering through a slow death which is the draft, rob has fallen into just about the best situation for him. so everyone knows, he is completely healthy and has his weight at 335 lbs right now. thursday he is off to dallas for mini camp and his hope to continue the fine tradition that pitt linemen have brought to the nfl.

thanks to all, good luck with the season, and see you all at heinz when dallas is in town."

I hope this is true...his biggest knock is his weight and ability to keep it under control. He has all the tools to be solid and compete....if this is indeed true he should compete with Tucker right out of the gate...

Sounds like he's already been hard at work sheding some weight. Wasn't he thought to be around 360 at draft time?

Petitti also said after he was picked by the Cowboys that his weight was down to 325 lbs.

He said he had put on weight going into the Combine because he had an injury (shoulder problem, I think) and couldn't work out.

If not for his weight gain and previous injury, I think this guy could easily have been a low 3rd round pick or somewhere in the 4th.

I'm very bullish on this guy because he has been a 4-year starter, and as Adam pointed out on previous posts, he held his own again some top pass rushers over his career. He has a wealth of experience. It really wouldn't surprise me if this guy starts later this season. In any case, he's going to give Tucker all the competition he can handle.

The 360 was when he showed up for the senior bowl. and he reinjured his foot or atleast that is what was said. then he went to the combine got weighed again around 360 and left. This is from what ESPN said about him during the draft. which sounds to me like he has a problem more serious than his weight and foot.

He definitely fits the profile Goose talked about before the draft concerning later round picks. It's good to go the big school programs and find battle tested players who may not have first round measureables but are very experienced.

That's a good plan. Too many times we've tried to hit the jackpot with small school finds and we've struck out.

That was a different player not him
Some of you will die, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

LOL!! Yes sir. All 10 lbs in his shorts!! Good one Cb.
AS: Cowboys ice their own kicker in 19-13 OT loss

“That is one of the luxuries of my position as owner as well as the ultimate decision maker, general manager and president – I can do that and take the losses and come back for more,” Jones said.

God help us...............

From the Senior Bowl Practices.

Rob Petitti OT Pittsburgh 6052 361 34 7/8 9 3/4
Weigh-In Notes: Holds all of his weight in torso and belly
Monday Practice Notes: Did not look good. Overweight, out of shape and constantly got beat. Several times he would beat himself up for poor plays. Dropping down boards off of today’s practice.
Tuesday Practice Notes: Left practice early with an ankle injury. Presently walking around the hotel with a soft cast on.
Wednesday Practice Notes:
Thursday Practice Notes:
Analysis: Headed south...showed up overweight, played poorly and then got injured.
