Well Fletch, not only do I agree with you but I think a poll of players and writers all came to the conclusion Johnny U was the greatest ever. A large poll.
But I guess many here never saw him in his prime.
Maybe we're just showing our age. Our maybe it's just me.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

You have got to be kidding me. How is a guy who is ranked in the top 3 of all major statistical categories and has led his team to 2 superbowls, winning one of them, overrated? You may not agree that he is a top 5 all time QB and I respect your opinion to think that, we all seem to have different top 5 guys. To say that he is the most overrated guy though borders on stupidity.

My Two Cents.
I'd like to pose this and see if the results change.
Can you put Montana in the Oakland "Throw Long and Often" offense and win it all?
You could with Elway, Marino, Bradshaw, and Fouts.
Could you put Johnny Unitas in the WCO and win it all?
You probably could with the same people above and include Aikman.
I believe Montana was a systems quarterback that would have been far less effective in the more conventional system.
I would also like to pose this.
Both Staubach and Elway were known as great comeback quarterbacks. They would do last quarter heroics and save the day.
Who was quarterbacking the first three quarters for the team to get behind?
I saw Unitas live. I saw Bradshaw, Montana, Elway, Staubach, Aikman, Griese, Fouts play this game. I also saw Dr. Frank Ryan with the Clevland Browns who had Jim Brown as the runningback.
For my money, and this is strictly my opinion only. I take Bradshaw.
Tough as nails. Had both touch and a cannon.
And called his own plays.

Occasionally, it was Craig Morton.

The 2 most overated QB's ever are Favre and Bradshaw. Look at the Supporting cast Bradshaw had around him and Favre gets all this pub because he brought GB Back from the dead, but have you ever seen a QB try to force the Ball more then him?, And he never is called on the Carpet about it from the Announcers, it's Just "Brett being Brett"!. I'll take Johnny U by the way!

its funny someone mentioned brett favre as one of the greatest to ever play quarterback, which i agree that he is one of the greastest.
me and a guy were talking one day at work and he was telling me what college he played for back in the day and he said he played wide receiver in college with brett favre.we got to talking about brett and he told me that back then he never would have thought brett would have turned out and been as great as he is in the nfl.
not that great a story, but just thought i would share it.
to get back on track, the quarterbacks i've seen play over the years,i would have to say montana or elway, and as bad as i hate to admit it i think theissman was a great quarterback in his time.

With respect to Johnny Unitas, the "greatest quarterback ever" was John Elway. The man almost single-handedly willed his team to three Super Bowls in a four year stretch--albeit in the weaker AFC. And I'll bet that Bernie Kosar would totally agree.

Oh Hostile you are so right, I obviously thought he really meant Quincy Carter was the greatest QB to ever lace up a pair up cleats.

Im just wonderin if Joe Montana could even throw the ball more then 35 yards. If it werent for the WCO I dunno if anyone in here would even know who Montana was.
