The Knee Jerk Injury Thread
Injuries often concern me. I like healthy players. I was thinking about it, and, come to think of it, we have brought in quite a few players with some dings:
1. Rivera - Back
2. Spears - Knee Scope
3. Burnett - Knee History, Hip Spurs
4. Canty - Knee, Eye
Couple this with the injuries to Glenn and Campbell last season, and that is quite a few risks.
Now this is NOT a chicken little thread, I am not extremely concerned. But I do think that, especially when thinking of our success for next season, we should take this into account.
I will knock on wood and hold my breath, but with the list above, I fear that we can probably expect some sort of injury to at least 1-2 of these players (whether severe or minor....)

Nope. Not a chicken little thread at all. 3 of those guys are rookies we just drafted and Rivera was given a fat bonus after we had just spent a 3rd round pick on a Guard in last year's draft.
I didnt know Spears had had his knee scoped though.

I don't worry about these kind of things right know. We have over 2 months before training camp and if Rivera is not on the field and Barnett is still limping , and Spears is not ready (although I never heard of the knee scope either) then I will get concerned.
I believe all teams have these kind of minor things throughout the spring and summer that we are not aware of and are not that big of a deal.
Canty was an injury going in and is not a key to a successful season. Rivera is my biggest concern injury wise. Is it just a fluke or a sign of things to come?

I would rather this all be out of the way when TC starts so IMO if its going to happen now is the time. Im actually glad Burnett went ahead and hot his hip fixed. Spears knee is fine and by all accounts Rivera's back is close to 100% now Canty had his eye cleaned up on Tuesday and the prognosis is he will be ready for TC maybe a week late but he should be ready to play week 1. All of our injuries from last year all appear to be corrected and players ready for Mini Camp next week. The Center Walters has an injured hand which will limit him in the Mini Camp but nothing to be worried about. I'm more worried that he can't lift weights because of his hands how will his upper body be affected? Maybe that's why BP said he was looking at moving Geroud (SP) to center.

I think it's better this way, knowing that we have players with injuries coming in and have they show up ready to play. Than like last year, going into training camp, everyone was healthy and injuries were happening left and right once the season started. This way the expectation is lower.

It is not all that uncommon for players to get some of the procedures we are seeing with some of our players it happens each year and a vast majority of these procedures are not that big of a deal.

Don't forget we lost Willie Blade to IR already.
I have the same concerns. Some of it is fluke, like Rivera's disc slipping as he treadmilled. (he's my biggest worry) Canty was a known health gamble, which I am glad the FO took. But there are too many names too soon not to be worried.
Then again, these things can right themselves. Perhaps our bad fortune is already over. It is mostly "luck", with a little bit of control over how a player trains and conditions, the state of the practice fields, wear your pads, the right shoes etc.
I think Bill does as much as any HC to prevent injuries, but when your number is up, it is up. Last year in tc Bill went easy on the players, partially to prevent them for wearing down too much as the season went on, partly to avoid early injuries - but injuries still kicked in, considerably more than in 03.
This year Bill vows to run a tough camp, probably more padded practices... either way, what ever he does, it seems you're either on Lady Luck's good side or not.

Its the best 53 that wins, not best 22
We for the first time have REAL depth at positions. All teams lose key players. Need to have players to plug in.
Only depth issue I see is at WR and FS. I expect 1 veteran at both positions to be signed in June.

Yeah, I had kinda forgotten about Willy; with the new talent brought on board since his injury, I sorta feel he is now just another blurry footnote in the Cowboys' history. Too bad, really, I was rooting for him, but I doubt he comes back and makes then team.
