Default Training Camp Questions

A few for anyone that was out there last summer.

1. Got any recommendations for a good place to stay?
2. How hard is it to navigate traffic and parking once you actually want to get to the practice facilities?
3. Best airport to fly into?

Thanks in advance!

1. I stayed in the Wyndham in Ventura Beach - gorgeous, but it was out of my price range (used the old man's points).
2. Oxnard is just a suburban town - traffic isn't bad, and the practice facility isn't too bad to get into.
3. I flew into LAX, which is always evil, but it was the only place that I could schedule. If you can fly into Santa Barbara, I would recommend it. I then rented a car and drove up highway 1 (The Pacific Coast Highway). It was a seriously cool drive - absolutely beautiful. I would love California if it weren't for all the people.

Finally - if you are a sushi guy, Oxnard has a little hole in the wall I went to called "Juro-Cho" If I go back this year, I WILL be eating there. It is a terrific meal.

I think you mean Highway 101, CR... it's the road that the country-western group took their name from... you're right, it IS quite beautiful... during a family reunion in Oregon a few years back, we drove down from Portland (where my Uncle Jim lives) to Reidsport (where my Aunt Kay lives), about halfway down between Portland and the California line on the ocean... Reidsport is just north of North Bend (they've got a really nice Indian casino there) and south of Newport Beach...

Aunt Kay decided we were gonna go up to Newport to the aquarium up there (I think it was called the Coastal Oregon Aquarium, IIRC), where they had the killer whale Keiko who starred in the "Free Willy" movies... Aunt Kay had herself a 66 T-Bird in PRISTINE condition, with the 390 engine, and guess who got to be the designated driver?? That thing was really neat, it had a feature I've never seen on a car before-- instead of a tilt steering wheel, the whole steering column would slide to the right about 2 feet when you pressed a lever...

Anyway, there I was, tooling up Highway 101 behind the wheel of this great old car, my Mom and 3 of her sisters along for the ride, the sun just up over the ocean... I remember thinking that it would be hard for life to get any better than that...
Smarter than the av-er-age bear...
