R.W. McQuarters to Sign w/ Skins...
Just heard it on the local radio show here in D.C. I haven't found a link, but they said he was here and ready to sign the papers.

official story...
Redskins look at ex-Bear

By Jody Foldesy
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
The Washington Redskins yesterday eyed another addition to their defensive secondary as former Chicago Bears cornerback RW McQuarters visited Redskin Park, but no signing appeared imminent.
McQuarters, a first-round draft pick by San Francisco in 1998, when current Redskins vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato headed up 49ers scouting, was released by the Bears on Monday. Over seven NFL seasons McQuarters has started 58 games, including 14 last season with Chicago. The Redskins already have acquired one veteran defensive back this week, signing safety Cory Hall on Tuesday.
McQuarters, 28, could add experience and depth to the Redskins' reserve cornerbacks. The club, which plans to open the season with Shawn Springs and Walt Harris starting, used the draft's ninth overall pick on Carlos Rogers and otherwise has options like Garnell Wilds, Rufus Brown and Ade Jimoh.
Another potential benefit of obtaining McQuarters might come on special teams. He has returned punts and kickoffs, averaging a career-high 12.2 yards on punts in 2003. The Redskins remain uncertain in both areas, largely because Chad Morton was modestly effective the past two seasons and still is recovering from a torn ACL.
McQuarters was scheduled to make $3.05 million this season with the Bears, who traded a conditional pick to the 49ers in 2000 to obtain him. That hefty salary, combined with a dispute with coach Lovie Smith last season and Chicago's desire to test younger players, reportedly led to his release.
It remains unclear how much interest McQuarters is drawing around the league. Among other teams who might have him visit are the New York Giants.

What?
You mean the Skins are interested in a "big name, former first round pick whose best days are likely behind him"?
What's this world coming to?

They're doing what we did last year - trying to get away with signing middle-tier and bottom-tier free agents and trying to get a bargain. I guess they never saw Marcellus Wiley play last year.

If that's the case, let's hope they have the same success as we did last year.

Are those real people? The names sound like aliases you would use to check into a $10/hour motel with someone who isn't your wife.

I'm sorry, but RW would be a solid addition for them. He'd be a great addition for us. First, the guy is only 28. He didn't play all that great as a 9er, but he was very good as a Bear for a couple years.
How good would most corners look if they had to face the WRs he's had to lock onto in the NFC North over the past few years? Remember that the Bears are the only team that hasn't had great WR talent.
RW is a very good guy and last year was one of the best return men in the game.
If the Skins do sign him, I'll be annoyed, but I understand it. He gives great depth at DB. I'd be shocked if he signs with them before going on a tour to see if there are any teams that will make him a starter.

I agree
I think he could help out a team his return game .....do not know if he could help out as a FS or not.
Eitherway for the right price they get a decent player IMO.
If we signed him most would be ok with it.

If they can get him for a low salary then this is a very good signing IMO. It gives them quality depth and RW could also battle the other former bear CB if Rogers isn't quite ready for the job. I am surprised if no other team shows interest in him though. If any other teams throws out an average signing bonus then the Skins will have trouble matching that offer IMO

I wouldn't be surprised if McQuarters beat out Walt Harris. He replaced him once before didn't he?

add a few more million in his offer. There's an old saying:

I sure hope Redskins do sign him... He'll be another Conerback with score on in the second game Monday Night... McQuarters is really hyped... Redskins is the type of skins to fully drain his skills....Ask Deion Sanders...
