Default Tidbit--Some Bills thought Bledsoe should stay

Take it for what it's worth, considering the source (ProFootballTalk.com), but this is an interesting tidbit if true.

SOME BILLS THOUGHT BLEDSOE SHOULD STAY

We're hearing that there was a difference of opinion in the Buffalo front office regarding whether to give former starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe the hook after the 2004 season.

It was, we're told, a move made by G.M. Tom Donahoe and coach Mike Mularkey, and that not all members of the front office wanted to yank him. The thinking was that Bledsoe can still throw, and that the team's offensive line generally sucked during his tenure.

We're also hearing that there are concerns as to whether the successor to Bledsoe, J.P. Losman, will pan out. Per one source, it's a 50-50 proposition at best as to whether he'll make it. Even if he does, he might only be "adequate at best" as a starting quarterback.

Yeah. I would believe that. Generally speaking you aren't going to get everyone to agree on a decision for just about anything in life. I'm sure Drew had his supporters on the coaching staff and the front office too. Take a group of say 10 people and see if you how easily you can get them to agree on where to go to eat. LOL!

Yeah, I don't think Losman is anything special.

Without knowing the dynamics there, what you can
take from last season,is that Bledsoe led them on a
damn good win streak and they still cut him.I think he
must feel like the most under appreciated qb in the league.
One thing I believe,is, he should do just fine with the players
he'll have around him this year.

I would be a bit leery about handing the whole franchise over to Losman. Had I been in charge, and I wanted Losman to be my starter, I would have simply had an open competition and played the best guy.

There's a chance Losman tanks... if that's the case, I'd have wanted Bledsoe waiting in the wings. They jettisoned their insurance and I'm not sure why. There might have been some locker room tension between those two.

I think what it comes down to is that Bledsoe wasn't their guy. He was a hand-picked product of the old regime. Just because he was a vet, it didn't guarantee him a spot, because they didn't sign him.

That's like alot of new employers. They come in, evaluate the situation, and then make moves to find the folks that fit their standards.

There was also some article that mentioned that Bledsoe would go off and do his own thing contrary to what the coaches wanted. Yet another reason they went w/Losman is so they could mold him according to their wishes and desires.

So while some may have wanted him to stay, the folks in charge didn't and that's all that matters.

Everytime I see this guy's name I think of "Cut the malarkey" from Dave Chapelle's "racial draft".
Is there any reward for good other than good?

Maybe they were trying to avoid a quarterback controversy by cutting Bledsoe. I don't subscribe to the thought that having two good quarterbacks (or even three) is a bad thing, but teams seem to go out of their way to avoid a quarterback controversy.

Stupidest move ever made by Buffalo...One of the smartest made by Dallas...

Bledsoe WILL deliver with a REAL NFL caliber O-line like we have...

J.P. LOSman----Weclome to the REAL world...I doubt he will survive the season without an injury....
When asked about his mobility-
"When one of these running quarterbacks wins the Super Bowl, then I think that'll be a lot more valid."- Drew Bledsoe 2/23/05

Losman has tons of mechanic problems, but does have great athletic ability.

I'm not actually a fan of Bledsoe, but if I were the Bills I probably would've either kept him around or found a cheaper alternative because I can't fathom Losman being ready right now.

They over paid to draft Losman. They figured they can throw him out there. I don't think they know how important the QB position really. Thats going to be a real bad Bills team.

They couldn't have an open competition because Bledsoe would have won that. Now - no controversy.

Because they overpaid, they had to jettison Bledsoe and annoint Losman the starter just to justify trading away the #1 they paid to get him. They knew there was no way in Hades that Bledsoe would ever willingly agree to be Losman's backup.

They were going to be hard pressed in a few ways.

1) CAP - number 1 issue now. They would have had a lot of team dollars tied up in one position only one guy could play.
2) Team Chemistry. The type of offense one QB can succeed in is not the same the other can.
3) Who the players like.... Will rip you up most times.

Maybe some of the players and front office wanted him back...but the fans sure as hell didnt. I live in upstate NY where everybody is a bills fan and they are always going to go undefeated. They hated bledsoe. I'm constantly ridiculed now b/c we have him...haha

Why win an average of 7 games a year with Bledsoe at the helm when you can probably get the same results with a younger quarterback that you hopefully scouted, rated, subsequently drafted in the 1st round and have high hopes that he can become the face of the franchise?

I wish the Cowboys would take a page out of their book.

Maybe Bledsoe will pan out, who knows.

8 Quarterbacks and counting who have started since Aikman retired.
