Default The Greatest Trade Ever Made

Reading the Jerry Rice thread, I was at first amazed that some knew nothing of the year we missed out on Rice to the 9ers, or the facts on Herschel Walker and his draft status and employment by none other than Donald Trump. But then I realized that when some of this all went down, some of you may not have been even a twinkle in your parent's eye. Yep, the years roll by, and I'm getting a bit long of tooth, yet not nearly as old as CBz40.

So gather 'round my chid'ren, and let ole jack tell the story of 'The Greatest Trade Ever Made'.

Of course the trade that comes to most minds is the Walker dealing to Minnesota. I'm sorry, that's not what I'm speaking of. You will find that in another thread, 'The Greatest Screwing of All Time'. Nope, there was a far more significant trade in Dallas history, one that stretches the domino effect across 2 decades.

Once upon a time, our beloved Cowboys traded a player we all greatly appreciated, Butch johnson, to the Houston Oilers. Some of you will note that Butch never played for houston, but was traded to Denver. No. Butch had some issues with Oiler management, and after a couple of summer practices, was given his release, where he then was signed by the Broncos.

You may say, 'Dang jack, what was so special about that?' Simmer down, move closer so to hear my every word.

In return the Oilers sent us another greatly appreciated player, Mike Renfro. Renfro did a fine job for our 'Boys, dependable sure handed sort. But certainly not the stuff that would make this the greatest trade. Not at all. It was the extra consideration that the Oilers sent, a 5th round draft pick, that made this so special.

It was that 5th round draft pick being subsequently used to draft one Herschel Walker. And I'm quite certain we all know how that turned out.

So maybe we can look at it as: B Johnson to Houston in return getting: Mike Renfro, H Walker, E Smith, R Maryland, K Smith, etc........................................and of course, 3 SB wins.

Sleep tigh little ones.
