Star Ross Verba OT to be released

NFL Notes

Browns OT Verba can leave if ...

Wire Reports

Frustrated that he doesn't have a new contract, offensive tackle Ross Verba will be released by the Cleveland Browns once he repays a $465,000 roster bonus.

Verba and the Browns have agreed to the amicable split rather than drag out a contract dispute that began when the eight-year veteran said the club reneged on a promise to redo his current deal, which will pay him $2.9 million in 2005 and 2006.

Repaying the bonus he received in March was one of two options the Browns gave Verba and his agent, Tom Condon. The other was to give Verba permission to seek a trade.

"The bottom line is they don't want to pay me, and if they don't want to, then I'll play somewhere else," Verba said on WTAM-AM, the club's flagship station.

I wonder what his asking price is going to be. He's never made the Pro Bowl.

He's played LT and LG his entire career.

I wouldn't characterize him as injury prone. He missed 2003 season with a torn bicep, but bounced back to start all 16 games for the Browns. Prior to the 2003 season he'd only missed 5 games during the 1999 season. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/team/..._bio.php?id=57.

Todd Bowles and Anthony Henry can give the front office some current info on Verba. Marco Rivera can also be a good sounding board. They played together for 4 seasons in GreenBay.

We could possibly move Larry Allen over to RT and plug Verba in at LG or move Flozell over to RT and put Verba at LT. I like the versatility. His presence on our team would give quality depth at LT and LG should either Flozell or LArry Allen move over to the right side.

Interesting ...........

Flo isn't moving to RT. He's payed like a LT, and on his game, he plays like a premier LT. Allen is the only one who may move.

Verba seems like he would want to be paid like we paid Marco Rivera. He deserves a very small fraction of that.
