High School Hall of Fame



Along with Patty Sheehan, four athletes and three coaches are among those being inducted Saturday into the National High School Hall of Fame:
Ty Detmer, Southwest High, San Antonio: Lettered in five sports but shined brightest in football. Went on to play at BYU and in the NFL for 13 seasons.
Sean Elliott,
Cholla High, Tucson: School gym is named for him; won state player of year award as a senior and set state record for points in a season. Went on to play at Arizona and in NBA for San Antonio.
Chad Hennings, Benton Community High, Van Horne, Iowa: During his senior year Hennings won a state title in wrestling and was all-state in football. Went on to be an All-American at the Air Force Academy and won three Super Bowls in nine years with Dallas Cowboys.
LaTaunya Pollard, Roosevelt High, East Chicago, Ind.: Led team to a 92-2 record during her four-year career and was state's Miss Basketball as a senior. One of two females honored as Indiana's 50 greatest basketball players. Went on to be an All-American three times in college at Long Beach State.
Coaches Bill Gentry, Highland and Eldorado Highs in Albuquerque; Jerry Popp, Bowman (N.D.) and Bob Wood, University Liggett School, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.
