Default Cowboys 4 1/2 point opening underdog

4 1/2 point underdog. This seems reasonable to me. Actually it is very good it is this low. Being with a new defense, new QB, OL play uncertain and on the road against a playoff team. It says good things from Vegas odds makers.

I do not gamble, or follow all the lines that much, but is this normal for the first week, they may be a bit conservative and then open it up from there?

Considering Gates and their #1 pick are out, I am surprised it's that high....

I can understand being the 4 1/2 point underdog. However, the fact that we are only 4 1/2 point underdogs speaks volumes about our progress this offseason and how we looked overall in the preseason.

Let's go Cowboys.

I didn't think of those two not playing. Holdouts, injuries and suspension are a factor. Official injury reports aren't released until the Friday before the game.

That's weird, I heard we were the 4.5 dog.

Off Cowboys-Forum:

Vegas line: Dallas +4.5 vs. SD

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Opening line in Vegas has us a 4.5 pt dog week one. From a pure betting perspective, the Cowboys aren't a bad pick. SD is far from a sure thing as far as being good and there is every reason to believe the game will be close.

If this is still true...then at one time if a pair of teams were pretty much a toss up with no great advantage....then in the nfl they would make the visiting team 2-3 point underdogs.

So really it seems like they are putting us even....dallas has a young defense learning a new system...San Diego is without their pro-bowl TE.

Sounds like an even game in most bookies minds.

I am with you, Merriman and Gates leaves LT. While he can beat us solo I am sure, I thought we would shave some points off and make it closer then that, considering our strong showing in PS and gates and merriman out. Eitherway, I cant wait. Its for real now. Lets get this party started.
Step aside for the Cowboys from Hell!!!!!

Yes it usually seems the home team gets 2 to 3 points, so that would put us about even on a nuetral field.

My guess is SD by 3 come gametime.

Now is the time to bet on Dallas if that is your thing because after a couple of weeks folks other than Cowboy fans will realize just how improved they are.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

Without Gates, SD doesnt have a really good receiving threat. WE can make them very one dimensional

It sure would be a great way to start off the season with a win over these guys in their house. Next Sunday can't get here soon enough.
"Those young guys are freaks," he says. "They are big, physical and fast; they are phenomenal. Every time I talk about this defense, I have a smile on my face. I think we'll have an opportunity to be even better than we were in 2003."

Roy Williams talking about our much improved defense.
