the trade
it comes down to this as to whether you like it or not.
fact - next years running back draft looks to be very strong.
possible - bufflo will blow chunks and we get a top 15 pick.
possible - is the top rb really a MUST have at 22?
fact - we go into next year with 2 #1's at this point, maybe on in each 1/2
fact - rb's have not been drafted high in the last few years
so here's the trade:
we have stephen jackson. do you trade stephen jackson for j. jones AND a fifth rounder AND that next years #1 in that rb heavy draft and a year to analyze it?
is that #1 an insurance policy in case they misread jones?
it's not the sexy draft we can all write story book endings to, but personally, i love where this puts us.

Time will tell. It gives us a lot of options next year. Plus we are real solid with our cap situation for the future. I would like to see us pick up another RB in either trade or fA. We are one injury to having Hambrick return as starter.

and a 2nd round pick also
its a good trade...this was not a super year for rbs in that they all were closely rated. JJones will be interesting and we have a year to evaluate him.

Put another way, is Steven Jackson so much better than Julius Jones that - all things being equal - Dallas + SJ equals playoffs while Dallas + JJ equals 5-11. I'm not so sure.
Then add to JJ the high possibility of having two 1st round picks in a strong RB draft class - I like it.

this is a move for the patient. those who want something NOW hate it. next year, they'll love it. nature of the beast.

Its kind of funny, all the weakneses of this years draft will be strengths next year and vice versa.
Next year will have 3 shutdown CB's with Marlin Jackson and Artrelle Rolle and Corey Webster. So Pete Hunter has 1 year to prove himself.
If you like pass rushers, Marcus Spears could be the most physically gifted pass rusher to come out since Peppers.
Next year, the OT position is stacked. Munoz, Winston, Brown, Justice, Barron and the 6'8" guy from Georgia that I can't think off right off the top of my head.

we as cowboy fans are so used to the win now mentality that it's hard to look to the future instead.
