The state of the league today is what killed MNF. They can no longer have their pick of definite quality games. I really don't care if they move or not. I am one of the few who would prefer the Thursday night games instead of Monday night.

Its true, but the reality is that FOX, ABC and CBS lose a boatload on their NFL contracts. cable networks also generate revenue from cable subscriptions, not just advertising. as long as the leagues want to charge huge amounts to carry their games, more and more will be making the switch to cable.

ABC ownes ESPN, so they can't out bid themselves. It's up to them which way they go.
What they need to do is open up the schedule, no more NFC on Fox/ AFC on CBS.
Divide up the games so that they can put that weeks best match up in primetime.
Too many times you will have a great double-header on Fox, a crappy game on CBS, a good Sunday night game, than a crappy Monday night game.

I know they had talked about not making it a "set schedule"... in other words they reserve the right to change any MNF game to a more marquis match-up...

I always wanted Monday Night Football (and Sunday also!) to include games on ABC and ESPN so I could have a choice as to what game I could watch.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

I'm officially old
I swore when my dad told me about "walking miles to get to the bus" and all the old stories I'd never do the same.
An ESPN commercial came on about 25th anniversary! I grew up 10 minutes from Bristol Ct and they luerd Berman and the late Tom Mees from 1410 WNVR Radio in Waterbury Ct. That was right as cable hit our neighborhood! The early ESPN years were a joke - but we watched it. It was clear - it was new. We had more than 7 channels!
No black and white grainy pictures! No more rabbit ears! No more listening to dad go insane when the antenna on the roof crapped out yet again.
I was living large in 1979, 1980. Australian Rules football at night man! There was the freakin College world series! Worlds strongest man! Cfl too! And thats when a new era started.
In this world of HDTV, Broadband Internet, Cable TV, Cell phones, 900 channels. Life is busier, but not sure any better quality of life wise.
But for us sports fans who cares - !

I remember when the NBA finals were shown on tape delay late at night or not at all. Some things aren't as bad as you think.

Hey... don't forget the full-contact karate... used to love that too... and remember before CBS got selfish with the NCAA field of 64?
I miss Tom Mees... and their cheesy beginnings... at least they are consistent on one point... "The Catch" is the single greatest history in sports...

I want to say 84 era boating from Australia/New Zealand as Turner and co were challenging (America's Cup?). There was tacking and bow terminolgy, wind and strategy. I almost found it interesting. But it was 3:00 in the morning.
