Interesting Eddie George fact
It was brought up earlier today on ESPN radio.
Ricky Williams had 392 attempts for 1372 yards last season.
Eddie George had 312 attempts for 1031 yards last year.
If you give Eddie George the extra 80 attempts at his average per attempt (3.3), he would then have 1,295 yards rushing (additional 264). All in all, only 77 yards less than Ricky Williams had last season.
77 yards!
Yet Williams is considered one of the greatest RB's in the game and Eddie George is considered washed up and beyond his prime by many accounts. Does 77 yards really make that big of a difference? I think not.

Interesting stats. I'm personally tired of trying to validate the move and just want to see him het 1st downs and touchdowns. Same for JJ too.

it does tell me ricky really fell off last year and george is the more consistant back in what you're going to get. was this a trick question or are you playing with your sarcasm again?

pffft
Is YPC the only thing anyone cares about? I could care less about YPC, it is his effectiveness when you need him. Hambrick had a 3.5 but he didnt get it done when it counts. Eddie does that end of discussion.

That wasn't the point. The point was that although their numbers are not far apart in the 2003 season, perception shows a very large gap. The gap actually isn't that large when you break it down.
Also, don't read too much into the YPG stat. You have to look at how George was used in Tennesee.

OK.
Tell me how George was used in Tennessee and how it differed in the use of Ricky Williams by Miami.
And please don't forget to touch upon the "superior" Miami passing attack and offensive line that gave Ricky Williams an inherent advantage over Eddie George.

you don't seem to realize it's a total and complete waste of time to do this, do you? we signed george as a solid, capable, veteran running back.
ricky williams will buy a pool sized bong and retire. someone makes a point george is still a good back and you make it a mission to go the other way.
tell you what, you tell me how to get you to quit telling me things and don't leave our your "superior" sarcasm.

I didn't start the thread.
I didn't make the comparison of Eddie George to Ricky Williams.

and then push it to "superior" talk. i doubt the person who started the thread or even made the comment was thinking it would be taken to this level. it's just a comment and you've got people analyzing game patterns, signal calling, backup rb's, passing attacks...
someone felt the need to kick it up to a PROVE IT IN YOUR FACE type thing and i'm pretty sure it wasn't me. that would take "superior" skills i've just not mastered, like you have at "baiting" people. you are a master baiter, dude.

I don't know if they keep stats on this or not, but what I really want to know is how often EG rushed for 1st downs in short yardage situations. As I said in another thread, I don't care if he only rushes for 150 yards all season with a 2.5 YPC if he picks up a 125 1st downs on 3rd and 2.
How effective will he be in these situations is what's important to me. I don't want him for the 1st and 10 carries. I want him to do what Hambrick couldn't do and what Emmitt Couldn't do his last 2 or 3 years, and that's pick up the 1st down on 2nd and short and 3rd and short. Is there any way to find out how he did last year in these situations?

Leon...
Now that's a good argument.
And it is distinctly possible that Eddie George could be better in those situations. If so I would applaud him for that.
Contrary to other's opinion I will call a spade a spade. If Eddie George is superior to THam or Emmitt in a category, I'll give him the props.

Interesting thing in Tennessee was that they didn't have a running back or quarterback that averaged over 4.0 yards a carry last season. As a team, they averaged 3.3 yards a carry.
George averaged 3.3 yards a carry, Chris Brown averaged 3.9 yards a carry, Robert Holcombe averaged 3.2 yards a carry and Steve McNair averaged 3.6 yards a carry.
