Situational stats for George in 2003.
Many of you have debated George's worth and said his short yardage ability is a plus, maybe not.
Eddie George' stats inside the opponents 20 and on 3rd down.
Redzone:
65 Att, 123 Yards, 1.9 YPC, 1 TD, 10 FDs
3rd down:
14 Att, 18 Yards, 1.3 YPC, 1 TD, 6 FDs
Troy Hambrick
Redzone:
50 Att, 95 Yards, 1.9 YPC, 4 TDs, 8 FDs
3rd down:
24 Att, 48 Yards, 2.0 YPC, 1 TD, 12 FDs
Hambrick was actually a BETTER short yardage back in 2003.

It's hard to compare Hambrick and George playing for two different teams under two different systems. Something tells me George is better, in spite of the stats. Just one of those feelings.

But isn't that same "something" telling you that their line was better than ours last year?
Let's face it.....we acquired on over-rated over-the-hill RB. I really hope that he gets in a time machine and goes back about 8 years.

Don't be so sure, here are his stats for 2002.
Redzone:
67 Att, 158 Yards, 2.4 YPC, 12 TDs, 17 FDs
3rd down:
23 Att, 84 Yards, 3.7 YPC, 3 TDS, 14 FDs
If you don't like the Hambrick comparison, compare him 2002 versus 2003. His stats fell off a cliff and he landed below Hambrick.

Hey Blind, at least I'm not straddling the fence on the RB issue, huh?

The difference is, the opponents would bring 8-9 men against George on short yardage downs, while against Hambrick the opponents would ruffle up the grass between plays and rush 4, effectively creating a 9 man front.

OK, we'll leave it at that and not re-hash the issue.

Is there a way to compare his situational stats from the first half of the season to the second half? I'd be interested in seeing if there is a noticeable difference, as there was with his overall stats.

George had five TD runs in the red zone.

He was better last season, but George has historically been a good short-yardage back. We'll see how he fares now that he's on a team that will be built around a power running game out of the I instead of a one-back offense.

I believe that NFL.com has this feature.
Click on "Players", go to EG, and you'll see it.
