I think the backup PAT and FG holder is due up next for them...after that the its time for the 2nd TE and 3rd string QB

I dont remember Landry ever saying that, I will gonna go see if I can find that quote . But still why do the Dolphins(6) and Raiders(9) of the 70s have more players than we do? I dont understand how Miami(5) can have same amount?

Jordan has been considered. I'm not certain how often he has been nominated; but he was one of the 15 finalists in 1988. Why he hasn't been voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame is pretty clear if you review the makeup of its Board of Selectors...

...not enough Dallas/state of Texas representation, if you ask me.

It is the bias of the voters which is the NE Media... they hate Dallas...

I will look for that quote and see if I can find it... I can't remember the exact quote... but it didn't help Lee Roy out any...

You KNOW it's bad when Dr. Z is defending Cowboys in the HOF...

It's called extreme media bias...there's no way in hell the team that was in 5 super bowls (and needed only 12 pts more to be 5-0 in said games), had 20+ conseutive winning seasons, was in more playoffs , had the most players elected to the probowl (total appearances by all) etc etc should have so few in the hall of fame...its one reason I probably wont ever go see the HOF, even though I really love the NFL...they BADLY need to revamp this sad sack voting system they have in place now...

Funny you guys mentioned New England. In God's Coach, by Skip Bayless, Roger Staubach talks about being berated by one of the Kennedy's (can't remember which one) for losing to what he/she called "Those Texans" while at the Naval Academy!!! He said this criticism almost made him choose the AFL over the NFL.

I was really hoping Miami would wake up and oppose New England's bid to win 2 straight, but with Ricky gone and Dave W. at the helm, I think they will win their division easily. One can always hope the Jets will step it up.

True Mike, but you better be long on hope, a life times's long, in fact

(NY won't catch NE in this lifetime as long as they draft as well as they do, and the Jets spend firsts on Bryan Thomas. Their CS is also head and shoulders above the rest of the division, and perhaps conference, even league.)

I think Dat would have been perfect running the Flex. Also, can anybody tell me why Lee Roy Jordan has not been considered for the Hall of Fame. I am not sure if he has ever been up for a vote, but it just seems like he was a hell of a player and very durable, playing well into the 70's.

He was up against the 3rd string Steelers water boy

They needed extra room or the Steelers? LMAO Unfortunately, it's got to be true.

Good post as usual Mick.

What bothers me about the Raiders is they had the same problem we did. Couldn't always win the big game. So if writers are going to throw in all the Steelers because they won four Super Bowls and exclude the Cowboys because we lost some, why are they giving the Raiders the benefit of the doubt?

Yep, beginning with the late 70's, Brandt's mastery of the draft started to deminish. All the Green's and Martin's would be replaced with the Betheas and Hills of the world.

Mel Renfro talked about how they draft and sign guys and then come and ask him about the prospects chances of making the team.

It's 5 PM and out!!!!!

Default Think about what he said

You see, it was necessary to set two of our four defensive linemen a yard off the line of scrimmage in a frog stance because this allowed them to sit back and see what was going on. They could read the actions of the offensive line, which would tell them which specific area they would control. You didn't control a man, you controlled an area. In the regular 4-3 [four linemen, three linebackers], you tried to control a man, but the Flex took away your natural instincts of pursuit. In effect, you held your ground and waited for the ball to come to you.

Parcells/BP in a different mannor believes in this 100%.
Not suprisingly BP talked extensively with Landry over the years..............
