Running back Franco Harris led team in rushing for 8th consecutive year and tied NFL record with seven consecutive years over 1,000 rushing yards.
8. 1971 Dallas Cowboys
Went 11-3 under Tom Landry and won 10 straight in beating Miami 24-3 in Superbowl VI
Led league in offense with 406 pts
QB Roger Staubach was NFLs top rated passer of the year and had thrown for 1,882 yds
Trio of Walt Garrison, Duane Thomas and Calvin Hill had 1,690 yds rushing and 14 TDS
Duo of WR Bob Hayes and Lance Alworth caught for 1,327 yds and 10 TDs

Doomsday Defense allowed just 18 pts in the postseason

Simpson (2,003 in 1973).

Won 12 straight to finish the season, including the Super Bowl.

Offensive line (The Hogs) allowed fewest sacks in league (9) which was 10 less than the second placed team.

The club had 7 Pro Bowlers
3. 1972 Miami Dolphins
Dolphins recorded perfect 14-0 season even after starting QB went down to injury and was out for a majority of the season with a broken leg.
Would place higher, after all, in the words of RB Larry Csonka: "Perfection ends a lot of arguments, but team played opponents with a .400 winning percentage and never dominated anyone in the season, for example, in week 6, QB Earl Morrall relied on the running game to narrowly escape the Bills with a one point win, attempting only 10 passes. In fact, 9 of 17 games were decided by 10 points or less. Nonetheless, the team will go down as the only one to have a perfect season.
Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris were the first teammates to ever rush for 1,000 yards each
Team set record for total rushing yards at 2,960 yds
No name defense best in 72 Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry could not recall any of their names
Six from team are in Pro Football Hall of Fame

Team completed season with a 14-2 record and went on to defeat the Denver Broncos 55-10 in Super Bowl XXIV.
The final in Super Bowl XXIV was not only the most points scored by one team, but also the biggest margin of victory in the Championship game.
Ranked first in league offensively with 442 points scored.
QB Joe Montana threw for 3,512 yds and had highest QB rating in NFL history at 112.4

1. 1985 Chicago Bears

Led by the Punky QB Jim McMahon, who came to August practice with a mohawk.
RB Walter Payton was named NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the year after running for 1,551 yds and receiving for 483 yds.
Offense led the NFL in scoring.
Defense - nicknamed the 46 zone which used the formula popularized by defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan - led league in fewest points allowed, fewest yards allowed and fewest interceptions that season.
Linebacker Mike Singletary won Defensive Player of the Year.
Mike Ditka named Coach of the Year
Only knock against team might be Super Bowl Shuffle, which featured the team singing and rapping about how good they were, reached #41 on Billboard and even getting a Grammy nomination.

The Bears and Fins are the only ones in the top five I agree with.
The 85 bears were a freak of nature.

This tells you all you need to know:
Top 10 List on the Ten Best NFL Teams of All Time
The Criteria:
1 - No duplicates on the list (franchise may only be selected once)
2 - All teams must have played in the NFL
-------
And for what it's worth, Roger Staubach played on both the '71 team and the '77 team and he believed the '77 team was slightly better because of the home-run threat that Dorsett brought.
And the '92 team was arguably better anyway.
"That's the fastest-running, slowest-walking guy I've ever seen."
-- Matt Millen on Tony Dorsett

The 71 team was a great team, but probably only the 4th or 5th best of our SB teams- I would rank them in this order:
1993
1992
1977
1971
1995
And yes, I consider the 1993 team better than the 1992 team- had to endure more injuries, distractions, harder schedule, etc.
Thankfully, I was smart enough to have never believed...

Ruling out teams before the merger, but yeah, kind of redundant.
I think our 90's team was better, but what can you do.

Exactly. The guy lost all credibility with that list.
The 'Boys blew out a team 52-17 that went to 4 straight SBs.
Is there any reward for good other than good?

The '72 Dolphins are the most overrated team in the history of team sports.
