Default 2nd Day Draft Picks: Love it or Hate it? WR Skyler Green

Projected role: Full-time returner

Position: WR
Class: Sr
School: Louisiana State
Conference: Southeastern
Ht., Wt.: 5-9, 192
40 Time: 4.53

POSITIVES: Elusive ball carrier whose primary duties lay as a return specialist. Solid pass catcher who extends and looks the ball into his hands. Quick-footed, makes defenders miss and follows blocks anywhere on the field handling the ball. Always works to pick up as much yardage as possible.

NEGATIVES: More quick than fast and lacks top-end speed. Not tall as a receiver, which poses problems.

ANALYSIS: A game-breaking punt returner, Green projects as a slot receiver at the next level who will earn his wage on special teams.

I like it. Maybe we can stop playing "spin the bottle" to decide who's our returner. Plus he offers some interesting potential as a slot-receiver.

to the board

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Happy Birthday

SKYLER GREEN

NFL Comparisons:: Steve Smith, Panthers

SKYLER GREEN MEASURABLES Height: 5-9 Weight: 194 40-yard dash: 4.40 10-yard dash: 1.56 20-yard shuttle: 4.20 60-yard shuttle: Broad jump: 9-10 225-lb. bench: 3-cone drill: 6.84 Vertical jump: 34 Wonderlic: 11 20-yard dash: 2.63

Strengths: Is a playmaker with exceptional speed. Shows nice burst and quickness off the line. Runs crisp, smooth routes and shows good balance and body control. Shows good hands, and makes tough catches on bad passes. Catches passes at full speed. Is elusive with a second gear after the catch. Has the best concetration of all the Wide Receivers in the NFL Draft. Has explosive speed.

Weaknesses: Is undersized. Struggles to escape jams by big, physical cornerbacks. Has had nagging ankle injuries. Must get stronger to sustain blocks.

Bottom line: Green is an above-average athlete and exciting playmaker. He can contribute immediately as a punt and kick returner. But his lack of size and durability will put a ceiling on his draft stock. He likely never will be more than a sub-package receiver, but his big-play potential is exciting to warrant a mid-fourth round selection.

I like the pick. If he can return the ball, I love it.

Last of the elite kick return men, can play the slot, has played QB, great gimmick player, several different ways to use his talent.

Kinda sounds like another Zuriel Smith: decent return man, lots of speed, small....

completely different. Green is built like a RB. Smith was a frail 175 lbs. Green is explosive and shifty, like a Steve smith. Zuriel was more of a long strider with decent speed and quickness.

Good pick and we need another young speedy type WR anyway.

I think Green will be light years better than Zuriel Smith as a KR/PR.

Any time you can compare a guy to Steve Smith, its a good thing.
