I said the same thing about Merriman last year during draft time...he had added about 30 pounds since his last collegiate game and looked really bloated. Guess it didn't stop him from destroying people his rookie year.
I'm not too worried about Carp.
I expect him to be the heart and soul of our defense by year 2. I think Hawk was a better player but Carp was the better leader. I really foresee Carp being a Ray Lewis type leader for us, a guy that epitomizes the defense and becomes it's "face" if you will. He'll be a guy that QBs the D and yells at people. The other thing I like about him is his football IQ. Will be another Dat in that regard..."watch the shuffle" will be a play I always remember.
I was a big Lawson fan and was torn between the two. I believe we could've found a place for Lawson easily and he'd been a great addition, but I think Carp will be a great leader for us and have big impact in year 1, as well as add a level of toughness, fire, and competitiveness we haven't quite had since the days of Jimmy Johnson.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

I don't see it in that pic either, but in the one where he's going one on one against whomever 57 is he really does looks like he's toting a little around the gut. Personally I don't care if he's fat or ripped as long as he does he job and does it really well.
BTW: he looks like he needs a little sun time as much as I do.

DD Lewis was a very good linebacker - sixth round if I remember right - back in the 70's........I think this guy's name is DD Lee isn't it? But many people will make the same mistake if he makes the team. I read his name as DD Lewis too when I first saw it.

Was that Dat? I thought it was Bradie James. You're talking about the philadelphia game right?

Aside from Carrot Top, there are very few buff redheads.

yes, it was shuffle or shovel, maybe it was shovel, but it was defintely Dat making that call. It was number 59. James was next to him but you can see once Philthy pre-snap moves shifts their RBs to split-backs from I-formation #59 pulls his mouthpiece out, stands up straight and points and yells "watch the shovel, watch the shovel."
I think James is number 58?
PS, some folks in another thread were bashing James, but I rewatched 3 gametapes from last year and he was our best LB and made plenty of tackles at or behind the LoS. He was a stud last year, in addition to some good pass defenses, esp the beaut in the endzone during the first philty game.

I believe he's going to be a great linebacker for the Cowboys. I'm just saying he looks a little fat, but like you said, it really doesn't matter.

What the heck does color have to do with anything? I would think that Lee Roy Jordan (white), Jack Ham (white), Jack Lambert (white), plus others were pretty good.

im going to have to disagree with you. if demarcus ware is not that guy i will be very dissappointed
actually i see this team being a lot like the pats defense, obviously there was bruschi, seymour, mcginest but there really was no single guy that seemed to the "face" of that defense. thats what i hope would happen here, and i certianly think we have the talent to do so.
