DVD recorders

Ok guys,

I'm not very familiar with this stuff.

I want to begin recording the games on DVDs. I also want to program the DVD recorder for future programs (read it needs the VCR+ option).

What DVD recorder do you recommend? With or w/out HDD?

What brand?

What features should it have?

I just bought a Panasonic DMR-ES15S DVD Recorder
Panasonic is one of the only brands that still records at 500 lines of resolution on the 4 hour recording setting (which is what you'll be using to record football games). Most other brands drop down to around 250 lines of resolution at 4 hour recording.

I got mine 2 weeks ago and have used it a good bit since then. It works GREAT and the quality is OUTSTANDING!

About a year ago I got the Panasonic DMR-EH50 and have been really satisfied with it. The dvd burner works well and the Hard Disk Drive is 100MB and can DVR about 35hrs. of programming at a reasonably clear setting. You can then dump your internally recorded shows on to disk or keep them on the HDD. It has component imputs (Y, Pb, Pr) and a digital fiber audio out (not coax). The unit cost about 300 bones a year ago. Hope this helps...

I've done a lot of research on this as I've been taping just about every Cowboys game since 1985. I'm in the process of archiving all my VHS games to DVD, and I'm going to purchase a Sony DVD Recorder (model RDR-HX715). It has a 160 GB hard drive and records onto the hard drive up to a whopping 15 mbps!!! That's just about double the normal DVD bit rate. Who gives a crap about this you might ask? Think what is right around the corner.......blu-ray DVD. By archiving games today on a DVD in 1 hour speed (about 4-5 DVDs per game), you will be able to comfortably fit multiple games on a 50-100GB blu-ray DVD in a couple of years. Remember when you're dealing with audio and video: garbage in = garbage out.

I just got a new 32 inch HD tv and upped my satillite dish to HD for the 100 games Sunday Ticket is supposedly going to broadcast in hi-def.

Will my dvd recorder do hd justice?

There are a few DirecTV Sunday Ticket channels in the 700s that are in HD. Most of the other are not in HD. I don't think your Panasonic will do your HD TV justice. We probably have to wait for Blu-ray DVD recorders to be widely available on the market. THEN, the quality should be amazing.
