Could we be turning around this 2nd RD jinx?

Pittman in 96
Page in 99
Goodrich in 00
Dixon & Carter in 01

The way Flozell in 98 played up until last year
The way Gurode & Bryant 02 played last year
A potential career ending injury to Johnson 03

I was begining to think we were totally jinxed in the second rount of the draft, but how a year potentially could change things.

Flozell 98 now looks like a perennial Pro Bowler.
Gurode & Bryant 02 look like they will be players this year.
Johnson 03 looks like he has recovered from the injury.
Jones & Rogers 04 look like they may be the real deal.

I guess time will tell but it looks like we have a chance to shake the 2nd round jinx?

What is the average with 2nd rounders anyway. I bet we are about average with them turning out.

Goodrich and Carter were both reaches, we knew that going in, without those two I would bet that we would be better than average.

Pittman, I think was a good player, not great and not a pass rusher but a good player, I would not say he was a bust for a 2nd rounder.

I would say 2nd rounders who are out of the NFL in 3 or 4 years are probably busts (injuries excluded). I think Pittman was out after 3 or 4 years, unless someone picked up Page lately I think he is out of the league. We know about Goodrich, Dixon will never be anything but a back up.

I will not even start the QC debate bust vs solid pick.

He had a few nice years in Denver after us.

Still with the Panthers I believe, on their roster right now. 9th year in the league.

I'm not exactly sure what it is your complaining about with Adams from 98 till 02...02 wasnt a great yr for him, but people ragged on him with really not much reason to either...he was fine in 98, 99,00 and 01

Gurode and Bryant both had exceptional rookie seasons, and Gurode actually started at both C and G as a rookie...he had some penalties last yr but according to Parcells is having a great camp this yr, and he had a solid game last weekend. Bryant has psuedo-star potential and works hard. I really liked what I saw from Rogers last week, and Jones' 1st game was a hit...with Page we got a guy valued by everyone as a 1st rd talent late in the 2nd rd, hard to argue with their logic on taking him...he just got lazy (or lazier) as time went on...his first couple seasons werent that bad, but he was awful his last two yrs here...Pittman was a terrible move, as we got cute and passed on Brackens to trade down for the mediocre Pittman and the awful Clay Shiver...Goodrich was an outright bust, Carter was mediocre and the jury is still out on Dixon

you could do this for all 32 teams though..not just us

I will give you that Pittman has been in the league for 9 years. But if I remember correctly we had a pretty high pick in the second round in 96.

Towards the very early part of that round, not far from being a first rounder, and he as averaged about 2 sacks a year over his carrer.

Although a smaller bust I think still a bust none the less.
