Default Collins refuses to renegotiate, told he'll be cut

Now that they own the rights to quarterback Eli Manning, the New York Giants have informed Kerry Collins that he'll be cut this week, Newsday reported Monday.

Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi told Collins, the Giants quarterback the last five seasons, that he will be released within the next day or two after refusing to renegotiate his contract, the paper reported.

"Obviously, I'm reflective about the past five years," Collins, 31, told the paper. "It's been a great five years. At the same time, I'm looking forward to moving on."

Collins is scheduled to earn $7 million this season, but the Giants were not willing to retain his services at that price since acquiring the rights for Manning from the Chargers, who made the Mississippi quarterback the first pick in last weekend's draft.

Collins attended a meeting and the team's offseason conditioning program Monday morning at Giants Stadium, at which time he was asked to meet with Accorsi in his office. Collins reiterated he would not renegotiate his contract, and then left Giants Stadium around 10 a.m., according to Newsday's report.

With Peyton's history with Collins I could see Dallas make a move on Collins as that vet. QB

This would be the perfect signing for us. However, I bet that someone will throw big money at him to sign.

Heck yeah. I think he will be signed for much better money than Dallas will be willing to throw.

Besides, the draft has made it clear, its now for Future, not present with Cowboys. We will win or lose, IMO, with Quincy, Henson and Romo. Chad will be gone, one way or the other. Probably last until end of TC thats all. We might not even get a 7th rounder for him.

I have sneaking feeling, unlike most think, it might end up Romo being starter when its all said and done when Season begins. Either way, its clear, no matter what the Front office says, Quincy is on short leash this year. He better show dramatic improvement, if not, he wont get the chances he got last year.

Yeah, but who has the money left to throw at him? Better yet, who's still looking for a starting QB?

The only teams that come to mind are Oakland and maybe St. Louis. Arizona?

I really don't see any team paying big money for him to be a backup. He has to know that his best chance of starting is Dallas. He can sign a one year deal. God knows he has the spotlight here to show he's still a good starting QB in this league and get a better long term deal next year. Plus, he doesn't have to learn a new system with Sean Payton here. He could come in right away and maybe run this offense better than Quincy....right NOW!!

I'm really for the idea of getting this guy here for a year or two and let Henson keep the ballcap on and learn from the sideline for a year.
