Hos,...I always respect your posts, but I've seen two separate sources that contradict your statement regarding seeding.

Within a tied segment, non-playoff clubs are given priority over playoff clubs. Priority of playoff clubs within a tied segment will be based on their advancement in the playoffs, but they will not drop out of their tied segment unless they participate in the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl champion will select 32nd and the runner-up 31st.

TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION MEETING
If two or more clubs are tied in the selection order, the strength-of-schedule tie breaker is applied, subject to the following exceptions for playoff clubs:
1. The Super Bowl winner is last and the Super Bowl loser next-to-last.
2. Any non-Super Bowl playoff club involved in a tie shall be assigned priority within its segment below that of non-playoff clubs and in the order that the playoff clubs exited from the playoffs. Thus, within a tied segment a playoff club that loses in the Wild-Card game will have priority over a playoff club that loses in the Divisional playoff game, which in turn will have priority over a club that loses in the Conference Championship game. If two tied clubs exited the playoffs in the same round, the tie is broken by strength of schedule.
[View Full Quote]If any ties cannot be broken by strength of schedule, the divisional or conference tie breakers, whichever are applicable, are applied. Any ties that still exist are broken by a coin flip.

Are you saying both nfl.com and espn are wrong?
In the 2006 draft, Carolina was slotted at #27 and Chicago at #26 even though Carolina had an easier Strength of Schedule (.449 vs .457). The reason is Carolina got knocked out in the NFC Championship game and Chicago got knocked out one round earlier in the Divisional round.
In the 2005 draft, the order of teams with 8-8 records was #16 New Orleans(.465), #17 Cincinnati(.543), #18 Minnesota(.480), and #19 St. Louis(.488). Minnesota and St. Louis made the playoffs, both were eliminated in the same round, so Strength of Schedule determined their seeding. Neither New Orleans nor Cincinnati made the playoffs, so they were group by their seeding before the playoff teams. Otherwise, if only strength of schedule was the determining factor, it would have gone New Orleans, Minnesota, St. Louis, then Cincinnati.
I hope this makes sense and clears up any confusion.
What I show the current order before the championship games is:
1 Oakland 2 14 0.555
2 Detroit 3 13 0.523
3 Cleveland 4 12 0.535
4 Tampa Bay 4 12 0.535
5 Arizona 5 11 0.500
6 Washington 5 11 0.512
7 Minnesota 6 10 0.488
8 Houston 6 10 0.504
9 Miami 6 10 0.543
10 Atlanta 7 9 0.457
11 San Francisco 7 9 0.500
12 Buffalo 7 9 0.574
13 St. Louis 8 8 0.465
14 Carolina 8 8 0.473
15 Pittsburgh 8 8 0.496
16 Green Bay 8 8 0.500
17 Jacksonville 8 8 0.531
18 Cincinnati 8 8 0.535
19 Tennessee 8 8 0.570
20 N.Y. Giants 8 8 0.520
21 Denver 9 7 0.531
22 Dallas 9 7 0.457
23 Kansas City 9 7 0.492
24 Seattle 9 7 0.453
25 N.Y. Jets 10 6 0.469
26 Philadelphia 10 6 0.477
27-28 TBD
29 Baltimore 13 3 0.461
30 San Diego 14 2 0.457
31 Super Bowl Loser
32 Super Bowl Winner
Scenario A:
New Orleans beats Chicago
The loser of the Colts/Pats picks 27th, Chicago picks 28th, Baltimore picks 29th and San Diego picks 30th followed by the loser then winner of the Super Bowl.
Scenario B:
Chicago beats New Orleans
New Orleans picks 27th, the loser of the Colts/Pats picks 28th, Baltimore picks 29th, and San Diego picks 30th followed by the loser then winner of the Super Bowl.
Remaining Teams and records to be slotted:
New Orleans 10 6 0.461
Indianapolis 12 4 0.500
New England 12 4 0.496
Chicago 13 3 0.430

Not sure why they say Cleveland and Tampa have to flip...Tampa beat Cleveland last year and the first divisional tie-breaker is head to head. (See 2003 draft of slotting between Dallas and Arizona)

This is after OL and Pass rush are heavily focused on in Free Agency.

Cason is one of the top jr CB's and at the time of Hos' post, it was widely considered that he would declare for the draft (but he ended up staying in school).

While it would be great if Laron Landry was still around for our pick at 22, it's highly unlikely he'll still be available. He's unanimously considered the best Safety in the draft - fast, strong, good cover guy, big, a great tackler - and he'll almost certainly be gone by the tail end of Round 1. Michael Griffin or Reggie Nelson are far more probable. Both are good options, since coverage and INTs are their strong suit. With Roy lurking over the middle and attacking the line of scrimmage, either of these guys help tremendously in limiting the big plays in the passing game. In fact, they'd create some turnovers themselves, I suspect. One of them will certainly still be on the board when it's our turn to pick, maybe even both (I seriously doubt that, though). We should take him, whoever it is.
The only other position we should consider drafting for in the first round is DE. It's clearly a need and there are many good players in the draft at that position. However, it's a need for many teams ahead of us, and I'm not sure there will still be a DE available when we pick who is as good at his position as Griffin and Nelson are at theirs. Unless something unexpected happens, Safety it is.

geez, I couldnt disagree more on either...after watching Landry and Nelson play alot here in SEC country, Nelson looks like alot better FS prospect to me, and he is better in coverage...I liek Landry, but he isnt the hall of fame player some on here keep making him out to be and IMO, Nelson had ALOT better yr last yr than he did
also, DE isnt "clearly a need"...how could it be? we have a number of very talented guys already here and the only reason they havent looked all that productive is because they've played in a scheme thats kept them handcuffed for 2yrs...Phillips' front 7 scheme is nothing like what Parcells' terrible version was, and we'll see alot better results from Spears, Canty, Ratliff and Hatcher because of it...Spears and Hatcher could both see huge production increases now
I really think unless we move Henry to FS and have to get a CB, we're drafting mostly offensive guys this yr

Fair enough a/b DE. More accurately stated, PASS RUSH is an issue we need to address in the draft this year (or in free agency). Improvement there IS "clearly a need," and b/c DE is the strongest position in the draft affecting that issue, it's certainly worth a look. If you want to blame Parcells for Spears and Canty having disappointing seasons, go ahead. But I don't think it's that simple. While we do have talent there, the bottom line is it hasn't produced. More talent, and thus stiffer competition, can only be a good thing.
As to Landry, he is the consensus top safety in the draft this year. Look at all the sites, read all the reviews, and he's the #1 guy at the position. He tackles FAR better than any other safety, and his coverage skills are excellent too. However, he fits the strong safety mold much more than the free safety mold, which is not what we need. So I'd agree with you that Nelson or Griffin would be a better fit for our team, I don't think anyone paying close attention to the safety position would rank anyone higher than Landry. And just for good measure, I too live in SEC country...Knoxville, in fact. I've seen every bit as much of Landry and Nelson as you. And if you look at their CAREERS, and not just last year's numbers, you'll see Landry's strength.

So, does Dallas have 2 sixths or just one? Did they really lose one for Fujita or is that screwed up all over the web except NFL.com?
