Fox Czar: Dwayne Jarrett Making a Mistake?

USC receiver Dwayne Jarrett should have heeded the advice of former No. 1 pick Keyshawn Johnson. Jarrett should be staying at USC and honing his game because he may not be fast enough to be a first-round pick in April. He reminds a lot of scouts of Mike Williams, another USC receiver who hasn’t gotten off the bench in Detroit.

Granted, Williams is cashing first-round checks. The Lions made a horrible mistake in making him the 10th overall selection in 2005 when all he possessed was tight-end speed and a body to match. There is no one that believes Jarrett is even close to Georgia Tech’s Calvin Johnson, another junior who will be the first receiver taken in the April draft.

I think the commentators, during the USC game or maybe a different one, were also saying that they think he is not physical enough.

We will see, but it seems like the last few big WRs that have came out of USC have not done great in the NFL.

He'll be a 1st round pick -- probably too high for us to get a look at him. What could he possibly gain from staying in college? Experience? He can get better experience in the pros. Conditioning? Better in the pros. There's no way I'd stay in if I were him.

The only comparison between him and Williams is that they both came from the same school.

Comparing two players just because they came from the same school is ridiculous. From what I've seen of Jarrett, he is a highlight reel WR. I watched him leave two different Michigan DBs lying flat on the ground from his moves, one of them supposedly the best CB in the draft. So, for my money, I'd love to see the 'Boys pick him with the 23rd pick.

Just remember....Mike Williams was a human highlight reel as well.

Not saying he will be the same...but hard to dismiss it as well.

I will never say someone is making a mistake going to the NFL as a first round pick where there is guaranteed millions instead of staying in school risking an injury that could end a career.

mike williams was the same highlight reel at usc, touchdown after touchdown, and he never got caught from behind

I agree Mike Williams was just as dominant as Jarrett at USC. I think coming out is the right decision. He isn't going to get faster staying another year and will be answering the same questions next year.

You make a good point here and it gets me back to what the original question/topic was about.

I strayed in that regard.

There is nothing wrong for the PLAYER...if he wants the money and wants to move on it is great for the player.

Now if you talk about the school that he is leaving or the team that pays him that money...it might not be so great for them.

I just don't get what he is saying. Jarrett had a dominant performance against possibly the best corner in the draft what exactly is another year going to do other than risk injury. Leinert's dad isn't paying his rent anymore either. He needs cash.
