Default FWST Blog: Can Peterson really go ALL day?

Adrian Peterson is ranked below Cal’s Marshawn Lynch on some draft boards.
The reason?
Not only does the Oklahoma running back have durability concerns -- having injured his shoulder, ankle and collarbone in his career -- but he hasn’t shown he can catch the ball out of the backfield.
With only 22 catches for 189 yards and one touchdown in three seasons, some scouts are wondering if he can be an every-down back.
"Adrian has breathtaking ability, but is he going to be durable enough to take the pounding in the NFL?" asked Mike Mayock, a draft analyst for the NFL Network. "I heard he’s going to weigh in at about 214 pounds. He’s a cut, lean guy, and 214 [pounds] is pretty light for a guy that tall. ... You compare him to Marshawn Lynch who is going to be 230-something and caught four times as many passes in his career who is probably going to run in the 4.4s at 230 pounds."

Lynch caught 34 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns last season, giving him 68 catches for 700 yards and six touchdowns.

I kinda thought this would happen all along.

Just like Williams says, Peterson is surprisingly light for a guy that tries to run over everyone. And I don't think he's as lightning fast as he was supposed to be coming out of high school, either. (Anyone remember his laughable comment coming out of H.S. when he was asked about going straight to the pros? IIRC this was when the NBA restricted high schoolers from being drafted. Peterson said that he would be the fastest guy on the Cowboys team. LOL.)

I thought the guy was greatness his freshman year, but I'm not so sure now. Maybe he's gotten beaten up enough that it's taken some of his speed away.

I think any team that drafts him (AD)with a top-15 pick will probably be sorry...

IMO him and Ted Ginn are early picks that have a high probability of being busts in the NFL

I think Peterson is hurt by the fact he has suffered some injuries but this is football and his injuries were legit and could happen to anyone. I consider it tough luck more than Peterson being some light weight. I would not be surprised to see him have a very good career in the NFL

well I'm glad more people are stepping down from the ridiculous idea that AD is somehow one of the best RB prospects in a long while, he's not that special

Lynch is the LT/Marshall Faulk type running back teams are looking for, he's going to take the NFL by storm. He's been stuck on the west coast but Lynch is a beast!

Glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks this guy is overrated.

I'll take him, the guy is top notch. Those who pass on him will regret it.

I know I would love to see him in a Cowboys uni. I think he is a definite pro bowl talent.

Ginn and Peterson will be very good. They both have the athleticism and speed that you can't coach.

On the team he'd like to play for - Adrian Peterson

"I wouldn't mind the Texans. Being able to go back to my home state [he's from Palestine, Texas] and having my family there would be nice. Also, the Raiders. I rooted for them growing up. Obviously Dallas would be on the list, but I am pretty sure they won't have a high enough pick to get me."

That he doesn't get as much press as East Coast/Midwest/Southwest types get(outside of USC).
