Stanton always made the big mistakes late in the game. He makes Bledsoe look like Tom Brady.

Everything was on his shoulders at MSU.

No talent around him.

A lot like the Cutler situation at Vandy.

When you have the 88th ranked D you're going to be facing an uphill battle every week.

Actually there was a fair amount of talent at MSu- just lousy coaching.
His tendency to throw stupid picks is on him and no one else.

Name one that will be starting in the NFL next year/ever.

If you are behind you HAVE to try and make plays, even if that means forcing it sometimes.

When Ireland went to look at Stanton did he take a radar gun? Is that too much like baseball? I've seen mph on qbs but not anything like 40 times.

I watched about 6-7 MSU games over the last two years- and what I saw was a QB that when the game was on the line he threw picks- many of them stupid picks. ANd he did that quite often when he was NOT being pressured.

That is a typical way to lose for MSU though, you can't hang that all on Stanton.

If he can learn the mechanics of being a pocket QB, I think your absolutly correct. He has a very strong arm and good mobility. He's pretty accurate too but he played out of a spread offense and he is not very exact in his drops. Not efficiant from under the center. He has all the rest but he will have to really relearn how to play QB. Excellent 6th or 7th round type developmental player IMO. I'd be pissing myself if he signed with us for nothing but I doubt that happens.

correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Alex Smith too play out of a spread offense?

JFYI, Jeff Rowe had the best 3-cone drill time, and 2nd best, after Jared Zabransky, who runs a 4.59, short-shuttle time among the QB prospects at the Combine

the only thing he really has to re-learn is dropping back IMO

Yes, he did. However, Alex Smith was much further along in his development with Pocket Passing mechanics then is Rowe. Also, Smith was just a much better football player. Nothing against Rowe but Smith was uncanney in his ability to see things happening on the field.

It can be done. Rowe has all the natural stuff needed. The question, for him, will be how fast can he re-learn? He has to learn more then just dropping back thou. He has to learn how to throw on time. He has to relearn his throwing motion. Make it more compact. That means he has to learn to throw again with accuracy. It's a different ball game when your dropping back and trying to read the action of the DBs and LBs, trying to check the blitz and trying to account for your Receivers and if they are checking down to hot routes etc. It's just different when you are doing all this from a drop back as opposed to taking the snap from the shotgun. I think that there is more to it then just learning how to do a 3, 5 and 7 step drop. JMO thou. Wil be interesting to see how it works out.
