Default Forced to do a new mock

In the spirit of bundling...

Trade #22 to NE for #28, #91 and #209.
Trade #53, #87 and #212 to Tampa for #35.
Trade #159, #200 and next year's fifth-rounder to NO for #123.

That gives us: #28, #35, #91, #122, #123, #195, #234 and #237. We move down from #22 to #28 in the first. We move up from #53 to #35 in the second. We drop four spots in the third and gain a second pick in the fourth. We're down to 8 picks from 10, which basically cost us a fifth and a sixth-round pick this year and a fifth in 2007. We proceed thusly:

28) Anthony Spencer, LB, Purdue, 6'3", 265, 4.7
35) Brandon Meriweather, FS, Miami, 5'10", 195, 4.47
91) Johnnie Lee Higgins, WR, U.T.E.P., 5'11", 186, 4.35
122) Allen Barbre, OT, Missouri Southern St., 6'4",302, 4.84
123) Courtney Brown, CB, Cal Poly, 6'1", 200, 4.34
195) Jared Zabransky, QB, Boise St., 6'2", 219, 4.58
234) Cory Anderson, FB, Tennessee, 6'2", 247, 4.70
237) Jake Kuresa, G/C, BYU, 6'3", 322, 5.25

I like that draft, but I'll be shocked if Brandon Meriweather falls past the Eagles at the 26th pick. Infact I won't be surprised if teh Eagles moved up to get Meriweather.

But that is a great draft for teh Cowboys IMHO. Pressure player in teh 1st, versatile DB inthe 2nd, speedy WR in the 3rd. That's a very pure draft

I don't know how realist the trades are but I like the mock overall.

The trades are strictly and conservatively by the chart.

Why are those other teams making these trades?

Who cares? Get in the bundling spirit, Jackal! It's still three days til the draft and we've talked about everything else...736 times!

(All these teams do have multiple picks in the respective rounds from which they traded. Nelson is still on the board and NE wants him.)

Okay, okay, but if Nelson is available at #22 and we trade down I'm going to be peeved even though I liked what you did with the first two picks.

Love the draft, but I don't like this trade to me it's just getting to cute at this point. Why give away next yrs 5th, plus two picks this yr for a 2nd day CB?

Trade #159, #200 and next year's fifth-rounder to NO for #123

OK, we'll assume the Boys make the trades you project, and draft where you have them drafting:

28) Anthony Spencer, OLB/DE, Purdue... 6-3, 260... 4.7 sec. 40...

The Boys like him, he could be what Shaun Phillips was for Wade Phillips in San Diego...

35) Justin Blalock, OG/OT, Texas... 6-4, 325... 5.1 sec. 40...

We also know the Boys really like him... he should be a solid starter in the NFL for many years, perhaps even a Pro Bowler before it's all said and done...

91) Courtney Brown, CB, Cal Poly... 6-1, 200... 4.35 sec. 40...

This corner is rapidly climbing the charts, a week ago I wouldn't have figured him to go much earlier than the 5th round... a decent option might be John Wendling at safety...

122) Zak DeOssie, ILB, Brown... 6-5, 250... 4.65 sec. 40...

Should be a special teams stud while he earns playing time at inside 'backer...

123) Walter Thomas, DT, NW Mississippi CC... 6-5, 370... 5.1 sec. 40...

This is probably a little too high to be drafting him, but he'll likely be off the board by the next pick, and I believe the Boys NEED to find a quality backup NT... if some other team is thinking the same way, think about Chad Nkang from tiny Elon College, a poor man's Darren Woodson... he played LB in college, just like Woodson did, but at 6-1, 220 pounds and running a 4.45 second 40, he'll probably move to strong safety in the NFL...

195) Dustin Fry, C/OG, Clemson... 6-3, 316... 5.2 sec. 40...

Gurode's new backup center...

234) Cory Anderson, FB, Tennessee... 6-2, 250... 4.7 second 40...

Anderson is also my favorite of the FB candidates likely to be on the board late in this draft... his computer numbers are reminiscent of Moose Johnston's coming out of college... if Anderson's already off the board, Le'Ron McClain from Alabama is quite similar in talent...

237) Isaiah Stanback, QB, Washington... 6-2, 216... 4.5 sec. 40...

A late round QB to throw into the mix, he might also factor in at WR if he proves to be less than NFL-caliber at his "natural" position... Toby Korrodi would be plan B here...

To me, the biggest flaw in this draft is it doesn't take advantage of the unusually good depth at WR... I could make an argument for going with a Paul Williams or a Johnnie Lee Higgins at pick 91, instead of the DB (but then the Boys would have failed to take advantage of depth nearly as good at that latter position)...

Hey, Thomas is MY guy! He was one of two players in all my mocks (Higgins) WAY before he flipped for the NYT!

I'd take that in a heartbeat, SB. Although... I like DeOssie, but I like Higgins more.

I'm an old Miner myself, I wouldn't squawk if the Boys took him, or even Jordan Palmer-- particularly if the latter has indeed slipped into the 6th or 7th round range...
