Considering the fact that we prevented a guy that could have theoretically caused us massive problems, as well as keep them from having the guy the eagles wanted, I already consider that a success. Also, the Eagles are pretty terrible at late-round picks anyway, so let them have them. Considering they took Kolb with the second-round pick we gave them, that helps to prove my point; they picked a system qb whose system is never used in the nfl, and the pick was also spent on a non-need, so yeah. Spencers worth has already been proven 'fore he ever set foot on an nfl field; we have just helped to screw with an arch-rival.

spencer's worth has already been proved? Not true at all. And if he is someone the eagles wanted why would they trade with us?
i am happy to get him but i dont understand your points above.

He would have gone to Baltimore or New England. We may even have picked him at 22. So basically, getting a 1st round pick next year to select him 4 spots later is not overpaying, IMO.

I am happy that the Eagles niether recieved the best pass-rusher availible as well as a top rated safety. That to me is a sucess
I honestly don't know what we would have done with those picks had we kept them, but I am sure judging by the Eagles' past late-to-mid round picks that they are going to pick players that won't significantly improve thier team. They are good early-round drafters (sans this draft) but terrible late round drafters. You may not see this as a success, but the fact that I believe that the Eagles will not do anything significant with the picks we gave to get Spencer is success enough to me.
The Fact that they took Kolb is a success to me because he is a terrible pick for them. They already have Kelly Holcombe and A.J. feely; this helps proves my point; they already have 4 qb's! Becuase they picked him, they lose the opportunity to pick an impact player on defense, which is a sucess for the Cowboys' offense when we face them.
Spencer is also a Monster Talent; Go look up my past posts, as I have been pimping this dude for well over a month. He is going to be great for this team, not great for the Eagles.
When Spencer improves our sack-total by 15-10 by his own impact and his mere prescence taking up attention by offensive lineman, you will see that he was well worth the value of those picks given up.
I have spent too much time on this subject. Bye.

What he said.
Spencer really could flourish in this defensive scheme. Ware has got to love this pick, I can't wait to finally have a defense thats going to be in the backfield putting pressure on the QB. Thus making the secondary look better, to prove that our guys aren't that bad at covering - but that even QBs like Jon Kitna can pick you apart whenever you run a vanilla (not to be confused with the other 'va' word that would appropriately describe our scheme) defense.

Very OBVIOUS answer here. We got Spencer AND a 1st round pick for next year. This is a NO BRAINER.
By the way, do chickens have lips?
Is the Round Rock really round?
These are both examples of questions. And they're both as easy to answer as the question you posed (well, for you and I. On the round rock thing)
We've got a tone of picks for manana. And I've got good feeling about what we can accomplish tommorow. This is a deep class, imo.
Considering Als age and the fact that G. Ellis may not return; combined with Wade Phillips defensive coaching style, I'm pretty sure that we didn't over pay.
In fact, we made out like bandits.

The trade evened out on the draft value chart. I think there was only 30 points difference. Spencer was the last good pass rusher in the draft. After he was off the board the position fell off a cliff.

Despite labeling myself a "realist", no one understands my pain or appreciates my special truth. Stupid world.

Soon after the pick, The Ticket (radio station) had Gosselin as a guest.
Gosselin said that the Cowboys may have reached a bit for Spencer, but that Gosselin understood why the Cowboys would do so, given that Spencer was the last of the top 5 pressure players available in the draft.
It seemed clear that Gosselin thought Spencer was a reasonable value for where the Cowboys picked him.
Answer for this off-season: Assemble an elite offense.

By the chart we only lost 30 points in that trade ...... now compared to what we had gained in the first trade and still getting the guy we wanted.

victory is ours

Net between the trades.
A. Get the guy we were taking at 22
B. Lost a 3rd and a 5th
C. Gained a 1st rounder in 2008.
Would you trade a 2008 1st for a 3rd and a 5th?

Oh yeah, since that 1st rounder is liable to be a top five pick!!!
