Brunell to Start Monday Night
Brunell to Start Monday Night

Mark Brunell will start Monday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Joe Gibbs said on Saturday.
The veteran quarterback had been listed as questionable due to a hamstring injury suffered in last week's game against the New York Giants. But each day this week, the injury improved to the point that Brunell took the bulk of reps during Saturday afternoon's practice.
"Mark took two-thirds of the work [on Saturday] and looked good, so we'll start Mark," Gibbs said. "He took some work Friday and he felt okay. I think he feels comfortable with it. So hopefully he'll be ready to go."
Said Brunell: "Each day [the injury] has gotten better as I expected it would."
Gibbs said he made the decision to start Brunell during Saturday's practice.
"I made the decision this morning to let Mark take most of the work in practice," Gibbs said.
Brunell was confident in his preparation even though his reps were limited this week.
"Obviously, in practice, you'd like to get every rep, but I had a few more reps today than I did earlier in the week," Brunell said. "I know the game plan and I've watched a lot of film. So I'll be ready."
After two games, Brunell is 23-of-42 for 217 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He has been sacked only once.
Brunell injured his hamstring while scrambling out of the pocket during the third quarter of last week's 20-14 loss to the Giants.
Until Saturday, Patrick Ramsey, who will continue to back up Brunell, had taken most of the reps in practice this week.

Oh well.
He's still an already-immobile southpaw with a hamstring problem. Also means that if we knock him out, Ramsey will be that much less prepared.
Still not worried about the Skins too much.

I'll have to change my prediction from 17 - 9 Cowboys to 30 - 6 Cowboys.

No biggie, instead of getting lots of INTs, we will get lots of sacks and boo-boos for Brunell

I knew it.
Gibbs would prefer a limping, washed-up, weak-armed Brunell who can read the field to a strong-armed, clueless Ramsey.

That was my 1st thought when I read the article. Ellis should fair well especially since the Skins are on their 2nd or 3rd string RT.

I don't think this bodes well.
I think the Redskins are tougher than any of us want to admit.
It'll be a tough game.......This is one that could get away from us if we're not careful.

That sound you hear is the giant sigh of relief from Patrick Ramsey who had been having nightmares.

The only way this game gets away from us is if our plane crashes on the way there.

Or if we let Portis get off, or if Vinny throws three picks again, or if Jeanne hits the DC metro at game time and our running game is still below average, or if we get no pressure on the QB, or if we have poor coverage in the secondary and get beaten by Coles or Gardner deep, or if the OL can't protect the leagues leading passer............Get my drift, we are not an elite team yet and have to play well to win every game. Coach Parcells alluded to this the other day.
