Nice letter. His mother shouldn't be sticking up for him. He's not going to learn from this if she does.

Really.
I totally agree with the letter...although many won't.

I did too. I was referring to the mother taking the politician to court over the letter.

Where's the profanity this is supposedly filled with? Is it when he said "***" those 3 times? Is that it?
It's mildly racist, but I wouldn't call it "profanity-filled," Smoking Gun.
Edit: Well I guess the language filter at the Zone caught the word, so I guess it is "profanity-filled..."

Sorry to take a different side than all of you, but two things disturb me about this letter:
1) The grammatical structure in itself. The fact that a politician (however low level) cannot write a clear and well structured letter frightens me. Yet another reason that for me, the biggest issue in politics is education.
2) I feel that there are certain matters of decorum and respect expected from a politician. I further believe that, while a politician has the duty to protect their ward and constituency, that they also have the duty to treat them with appropriate respect. I found this letter to be unbecoming of a letter sent with the city's letterhead. Allow the courts to take care of the criminal.
I see this letter, which, you will notice, was copied to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, as a thinly vailed attempt to appear 'tough on crime' and make his name known to prospective voters, possibly in a future election.

it's drama for the sake of drama and i hate that. this is one of those things that would be fun to "talk" about but doing it? that's a whole different issue. i wouldn't agree that the politician should be taken to court or anything like that, but why?
why invite the aggrevation onto yourself like that which this will only bring? it's as if he has no clue about "end results" and what he wants that to be so he goes on day to day poking someone in the side he hates.
no gain in that and nothing to win. i don't see the point in it.
let the system takes it's course and maybe smile inside if you must. but taking glee in someone elses "issues" is just not cool to me.

I agree with this statement. What most people fail to realize is that education is an investment in the future economy.

I felt he was intentionally making fun of the inmates education level.
There was a high level of familiarity and personal vendetta but it humored me just the same. Drug dealing pieces of trash are just that.
It would have come off better imho if not written from his office but rather personally as it was clearly personal.
I wish we could all send letters in to scumbags in jail. Just have a website post a guy's crime, some testimonials or whatever to validate it as being accurate then his mailing address in jail/prison.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

While I might still not have agreed with the content of the letter, I do absolutely think it should have been done in a personal format. Nothing was accomplished by issuing this letter on his official letterhead, other than to make the letter an act of the local government. That is further what makes me think he did this to garner votes, an act that fails to impress me.
