Overview

Tribble might be the nation's best senior cover corner. He possesses the athleticism and instincts to effectively shut down his man and is a proven big-play defender with 11 interceptions and four fumbles (two forced, two recovered) in 27 career starts. Tribble's lack of size and physicality, however, is a concern for some.

He received All-ACC second-team honors as a junior. Finished the 2006 season with 135 career tackles (112 solos), 8.0 tackles for loss, 14 pass breakups, 11 interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Analysis

Positives: Good speed, quickness and agility in pass coverage. Can run stride for stride with the nation's fastest receivers and has an extra burst when the ball is in flight. Good hands for the interception and times his leaps nicely. Battles for the ball and believes that when the ball is in flight it is intended for him. Effective drag-down tackler. Big-play return specialist, including two punt returns for touchdowns as a freshman.

Negatives: Lacks dominant size and physicality. A willing tackler, but isn't a striker and likes to duck and grab to make stop the ball carrier. Has a gambler's edge to him and will attempt to bait the quarterback at times and use his late burst to make plays on the ball. An effective return man, but has struggled with fumbles.

Size may push him down to 2nd or 3rd round. Player to watch this season.

I like the kid, if he were 2 inches taller he'd be a 1st rounder. However I could see him being at least a solid nickel corner. And who knows... he could compete as a starter. I would just be leery of his height not actually being 5'9".

Being an SFA grad, Sam Houston is equivalent to the Redskins... but he is a nice player that could be had in later rounds. I have seen him play and he is good...

If we go CB next year, I have my eye on Dwight Lowery...

Thanks - I added him to my database. 4.32 was eye opening and he has decent size. Graded late day 2 to UDFA so far

ummmm

Justin King anyone?
"His poise has been surprising. Against Indy, at the two-minute warning, we thought we'd take a knee. But Tony comes in the huddle and says, 'All right guys, we're gonna take a shot. We're going deep.' We're like, 'What? Game's over.' He took a knee, but for a minute he had everyone going." -Jason Witten

09/02/07 - Week 1 National Defensive Player of the Week: Boston College senior cornerback DeJuan Tribble was named National Defensive Player of the Week Sunday by the Walter Camp Football Foundation after tying a career high with three interceptions to lead BC to a 38-28 season-opening victory over Wake Forest. In addition to his three interceptions (two of which came in the end zone), Tribble added seven solo tackles, including one for a loss. This marks the second time a BC player has received the award in as many years. Last season, linebacker Jolonn Dunbar was named National Defensive Player of the Week after returning two fumble recoveries for touchdowns and registering 14 tackles against Maryland. - BC Sports
