Default Matthew Stafford - Georgia QB

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/boxsco...200 709010068

SEC/Georgia fans any thoughts? I heard a national media guy give him a lot of love after watching a few UGA practices recently. Appears he played well yesterday.

He was a freshman last year, considered to be a big talent. But he wasn't in college shape. There is a lot of hope in the guy now that he's had a season of SEC caliber weight training.

David.

he has blue chip passing skills...will likely be a top-10 pick if he enters the draft after his JR yr (next season)...could potentially be a top pick overall

Thanks - it was a lunch listen and someone was going gaga over this QB's potential on the radio. Even called him the sleeper QB in the nation.

Noted and will track this guy forward.

Thanks for the info.

I dont know why they'd think he was a sleeper...guy was either the #1 or #2 QB recruit by everyone last yr

he's definitely the most talented passer Georgia has had in years, maybe ever

He is a local kid out of Highland Park and lead one of the best high school teams in state history.

He was considered a top flight can't miss collegiate and won the QB job as a true freshman... WOW!

I can see why after watching the game. OSU was probably better in alot of ways but Stafford was just too good. He was slimmer and moving very well but a ridiculously accurate and strong armed qb. One play he was rolling to his right and threw on the move and hit a WR in stride for a big play. The accuracy was seriously NFL caliber.

IMHO he is the best QB in college football right now.

He is legit size, athletically and with the arm. They were talking about him looking a lot like a young Elway in the face and it was not too far looking like him on the field. I think Georgia could win a national title in the next year 2 years with this kid at the helm. He is truly special.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

sleeper in that last season as a freshman they were bad on offense but now he could already be the best qb in the nation... but it was just one game.

Thanks - starting to get local recon here we may have a future stud QB to watch. I'll try and watch as many Georgia games as possible.

Updated - he said sleeper or QB that might come out of nowhere in 2007 and make noise and mentioned the Georgia kid.

I think he meant more College nationally and not tied to High School ratings.

Richt calls Stafford his best QB ever
Georgia head coach tutored two Heisman winners in past

By CARTER STRICKLAND
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 09/04/07

Athens — Georgia coach Mark Richt, who has coached two Heisman Trophy winners (Chris Weinke and Charlie Ward, both at Florida State) and 11 quarterbacks who reached the NFL, says he may have has found the best quarterback of them all in Matthew Stafford.

"He is the most talented guy overall I have been able to coach," Richt said of his starting quarterback. "Will he be a success as a winner? Only time will tell. He has got all the things that you want as a quarterback. ...

Will Matthew Stafford be considered one of the all-time great college QBs even if he never wins a national title or the Heisman trophy?
Yes.
No.

"He has everything you need to win now. He has just got to win to define himself as a great one."

The sophomore has won the last four games he started, three of those against ranked opponents. But it was his last game, last Saturday against Oklahoma State, that Richt said might have been Stafford's best.

"I thought that was the best game of his career last week — top to bottom," Richt said. "The Auburn game [14 of 20, 219 yards, 1 TD in a 37-15 win last season] was a good game but it seemed like everything kind of went right [vs. Oklahoma State]. I don't think he had to make a lot of decisions in that game ... whether to throw it away or take a sack. Most of the time when he dropped back somebody was open."

Against OSU, Stafford only threw the ball downfield a handful of times. He finished 18 of 24 for 234 yards with two touchdowns. Richt said that very easily could have been 300 yards with an 85 percent completion rate. But he wasn't complaining, especially since there were no turnovers.

"There were definitely some times where I probably could have chunked them up there and I didn't," Stafford said. "I just tried to hit checkdowns. It made it easy on me, I guess. You can be aggressive. You just have got to pick your shot. Trying to force something gets us in trouble. We did a good job of staying patient."

In his last four games Stafford has 757 passing yards, five touchdowns, an interception and is completing the ball at a 61 percent clip.
