if this is what *we the people* want, why are we always whining about it?

i think if the news were "good" we'd whine about that because inhernately that's what we do regardless.

His take, I imagine, is that they keep getting the ratings and in turn the money for doing it like they are doing it so people must like it.

I dunno, what I took from that was that cable has led to an unfortunate "evolution" in the news... back when we got an hour a night, the networks had to focus on the REALLY important stuff... but once we had network after network carrying news 24/7, the "silly" stuff started creeping in, because they needed some way to fill all those hours, and they didn't want to keep on recycling the same news endlessly... and eventually, the silly stuff started to drown out the serious stuff, until now we have a society where far more people have seen Britney's "puddy tat" than can tell you where Kabul is...

Before long, the National Enquirer will be considered mainstream news, LOL...

I agree. In order to legitemize charging people for TV, they loaded it up with all the crap and tried to call it serious.
