I'm gonna take a non homer approach if you will.
IMO, Flozell does have mental lapses, but for the most part, he keeps his guy in check. However, there are some games where Flozell completely gets us beaten. Problem is, we have to learn to adjust to that because we're not going to find 5 all world linemen.
How can we adjust?
We can start by swinging out to the running backs, draw plays to Flozells side, become better at screens, roll the pocket.
At times, we had problems with running behind Kosier and Kosier getting man handled by stronger tackles in the passing game. I do believe we can up grade this position, but it's not life threatening.
How do we work around Kosier when we can't run straight up behind him or he's getting pushed around by bigger stronger tackles?
How about pull him? Maybe run behind a FB when we're running to his side.
Gurode can help out when we play certain teams, and by all means, try running quicker passing plays.
Gurode only had problems with stunts and an occasional stunt blitz.
Rivera just kept getting pushed back, and that's not acceptable.
Columbo was very good IMO and he's going to get better.
So yeah we could upgrade Flozell, but don't make a mistake and downgrade thinking you're upgrading. The person needs to clearly be better. And Kosier is a solid guard, again, if you're going to upgrade, then go high in the draft or with a proven commodity.
Carry on folks.
