It's not a question of Detroit taking the guy you want...the problem is that everyone knows Detroit will trade the pick for a good offer, and you don't want another team leap-frogging you and stealing the guy you want at the top of the draft, so you make the deal...then you're sitting there on draft day knowing you're going to get your man. Sitting pat at #3 could mean you lose the player you want and suddenly no one wants to move up to #3 and let you out of paying huge money to a guy you're not really excited about.
