The reason I ask is because I feel strongly that you need to take the best available player, particularly in the first couple of rounds.

But I feel strongly that you're correct with your line of thinking.

But if Rolle is there at 11 and Merriman, Spears, Mike Williams, Edwards, DJ, etc. are gone, he very well could be the best player available on our board by a long shot.

If that happens I'm torn. I feel like we really need to stick to the BPA method, and FS is an area of need also, but I also don't think we should sink anymore money into the DB's either.

I suppose what I would agree with is a BPA line of drafting with a common sense caveat thrown in there.
I think that there is no always and there is no never. I think any business has to be run with a certain amount of flexability.

I think that teams put together there draft boards in a ceratin way. You evaluate talent and you list in according to your scouting department. Then, you put together your draft board and you list the players you would consider drafting, and where. You stick to that board. If a player of unbelievable talent falls to you, then I think you take him. For example, if Deion were in this draft and he fell to us at 11, then I think you take him and try to move whomever else you have at CB later. Bottom line, I think a player has to grade out as one of the best at the positon, ever, if our going to go away from your team draft board. Other wise, you work out a trade and you move down, all the while, getting value for the pick. Rolle is not that kind of player. He's a nice player but he wont grade out as one of the very best at the position. I think that if he were there at 11, we could get a trade for him. Same with one of the QBs or maybe Miller at TE. I just think were starting to get to the point where we need to take more focus on team needs rather then just taking BPA at all costs. We can get good Safety help later in the draft. We could also get good CBs later in the draft. The chance to get an impact player, IE, LT, edge rushing DE, OLB or franchise WR is going to be there at 11 IMO. I think we're better suited to wait for our players and move down if we think that's the right thing to do via trade. That's my opinion.
