As for you comment on Carter leading Dallas to the playoffs BS QB's throwing more int than TD are not leading anything, thankfully in 2003 dallas defense played well enough to overcome Carters crappy play
Danny inherited a team that went to the S.B. twice('77'78) and the playoffs in '79. All he had to do was drive the bus;he had a heisman back, all pro receivers and all pro tight end and a championship caliber D. That defense was good enough to get to the playoffs from 77-83 and as was their offense. Danny was the weakest link on that team and that's why I blame him.
As for Carter, most 3rd year QB's have thrown more int than tds, that's a part of the learning process(see Aikman,Elway,Carr,Harrington, etc.) Aikman was in his 4th year before he threw more tds than int, plus thru his first 39 starts, he was 13-26;contrast to Carter(34 starts = 18 wins and 16 losses). Carter's crappy play = 10-6 record,5th highest passing yardage total despite 29 dropped passes contrasted to the Packers receivers dropping 2 in the same year;Antonio Bryant's drop percentage was 20%, whereas the average WR drops only about 12%. Also, Shaun Alexander and Tomlinson had over 10 td runs, whereas Hambrick had 5 in the first 8 games and 0 in last 8,the toughest part of their schedule. Carter had no help, yet passed for over 200 yards 5 times in the last 8 games, again, the toughest part of the schedule(210 against NE,254 against Panthers (super bowl team),288 against the Dolphins with their 10-6 record and good pash rushers or solid corner backs,290 against the Saints(top 10 defense against the pass) and 200+ against the Giants).
If the Cowboys defense was so good, why did they give 250 passing against the Dolphins with Fe-Fi-Fo Fiedler throwing the ball;why did the defense crash and burn against the Eagles in game two and in the playoffs against the Panthers;and why did they flame completely out in 2004. I'll tell you why, Dallas ran a balanced offense with Carter and Hambrick(good mix of run and pass, even tho Hambone ave. only 3.5 yards per carry, but Carter ave. 206 yards per game, which beats Brady's 187 per game in 2001, when they won the super bowl. Carter's play was more than adequate;it was the failure to get a pass rusher and a decent running back and possession receiver who'd catch the ball and go over the middle that hurt the 2003 team, not Carter's play.
