Hip hop-ify your cell phone
Report: Russell Simmons and American Greetings plan phone services for hip-hop and sports fans.
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Russell Simmons' Def Jam Enterprises and greeting card company American Greetings are launching several new wireless services under the name Def Jam Mobile, according to Friday's
New York Post.
Def Jam Mobile signed music artists like Chingy and Method Man to produce new tunes exclusively for mobile phones, the paper said.
In addition to hip-hop ring tones, the article states,
Def Jam Mobile will also offer "sportz tonez," which will allow sports fans to hear the sounds of their favorite games when their cell phone rings.
The company has also signed licensing deals with various sports stars, including the Knicks' Stephon Marbury, the Red Sox' David Ortiz,
the Dallas Cowboys' Roy Williams and the Minnesota Twins' Torii Hunter, the paper said.
"It's a comprehensive list of applications for the hip-hop consumer," the paper quotes Brian Biniak, senior vice president and general manager of AG Interactive's mobile group, a subsidiary of American Greetings. "Not only do we have content that is coming from Def Jam, but we have licensed content from other labels and new music."
