A tribute to Bill Parcells
I'd like to take this moment to tip my hat to (IMO) the greatest coach in the NFL today and shed some light on just how fortunate we as Cowboys fans are to have him as our own. At times, Bill Parcells can be stubborn to a fault and often very set in his ways. Necessary traits IMO to be successful coaching in such an unpredictable league yet I understand that some Dallas fans have been rubbed the wrong way as a result. But regardless of his hardheaded gametime decisions or hardnosed coaching strategies, BP has given us all one asset that should make you proud to be a Cowboys fan whether we win or lose on any given Sunday.
That asset?
Character.
This team has it and has it in bulk. The personnel that makes up our team has been hand-picked, disciplined and filtered down to the highest common denominator in terms of talent and character thus contributing to the overall team ideal that is necessary in such a cooperative sport.
Thank God we don't have a premadonna like T.O. holding out and taking low blows at his teammates. Thank God we don't have a thug like Sean Taylor acting the fool and forcing us to find a roleplayer to replace a starter. Thank God we don't have a Koen Robinson facing game suspensions and substance abuse policies. Thank God we don't have a selfish like Randy Moss staining our franchise and causing contraversy within the locker room. Thank God we don't have a rookie like Shawne Merriman who thinks he's already proven enough in the game, before even playing professionally, to make demands on his organization. Come to think of it... thank God we don't have any players from "The U", also.
Thankfully, what we do have is a team of high character, team minded, talented and eager individuals with a higher level of intelligence than the average athlete. Thank God. I love this team and it's coach. And I feel fortunate to have such a shrewd business mind/football fan for an owner, as well. He genuinely wants his team to be successful and will do what it takes to win even if it means forfeiting his power to some degree to the coach in order to give the coach the leverage needed to be successful. And let's not forget our lovely cap situation.
This team is exploding with talent. It is a lovely marriage of seasoned vets, promising youth and overall successful ability. But most of all, it is a unit of solid, classy athletes working toward a common goal. The players on our team are actually guys I wouldn't mind meeting and exchanging a few words with. Thats says alot in a day where the Barry Bonds and Ron Artests of the sporting world are the real "headliners" and "heros". Not in my world. I have a tremendous amount of respect for athletes that respect the game and work relentlessly towards the benefit of their team rather than themselves. I believe BP has assembled a unit that encompasses this ideal more so than any other team in any professional sport, today. For that, I tip my hat to the man and am more proud than ever to proclaim, "I am a fan of the Dallas Cowboys."
Thank you Bill Parcells. Go Cowboys!
