Rivera is a 33 year old guard.
Guards have been known to play into their late 30's but isn't $9 million a little too steep. Could playing tackle been part of the arrangement thus allowing Marco's agent to ask for more signing bonus. I am unaware of any other 30 year guard getting that type of contract, but I recall a mediot on ESPN radio wondering why the Cowboys would give Rivera that type of contract only to play guard. he insinuated that their might be some tackle duty because our RT spot was shaky.
Anyway, the last time Rivera played tackle full time was a Penn State in 1993. The year after he moved to guard and became part of a dominating Oline that gave Kijana Carter a 1st class ticket to the NFL draft. Rivera played some tackle in 1995 and 1996 filling in whenever a tackle went down.

It is a lot but I think he will be worth it if he can help make this offensive line dominate once again. As far as tackle I don't think so especially when considering how poor the play was at right guard last season. Dallas showed last season we can't run the ball on the right side and thus were limited to running the ball almost exclusively to the left
