I'm not trying to "prove" anything in front of friends. I was talking to you, Om. If you like to paint me as a little kid, saying things at the encouragement of his friends... go ahead if it'll make you feel better. Perhaps any of the Extremeskins readers that happen along will enjoy that view with you... I know that's a big thing for some of the long time posters over there. They apparently love doing that to the delight of their followers.
However, that doesn't do anything for me. No, I said it because that's what I think. You Skins fans sit in the comfort of your site and keep telling each other over and over that it's going to all be okay. That's fine if you want to do that. When you come over here and try to tell us that we only read the headlines and that the Redskins off season wasn't bad... well, it makes me wonder who's telling who that the world is flat.
If my post had a sarcastic edge in it, it was only mirroring the tone of the post you wrote in response to my first post in this thread.
You were talking to me and you assumed that I was only a "headline" reader, which is wrong, so I made a response (albiet a long one) saying you always use that with rival fans when you shouldn't always jump to that conclusion. To make the analogy that saying the redskins had a bad off season is similar to saying the world is flat, only serves to show your frame of mind on the subject and how unequivocably right you think are about that.
And I never said anything about "whooping" anyone's a**. I really didn't view it in that light, Om. It wasn't a competition... it was a discussion. No winner and no loser... only two differing viewpoints. I was only giving the facts as I saw them and asking you to tell me what I was missing. Truly, I thought there could be some issues or slants on the issues that I might be missing. I didn't think there would be... but I know there could be some things that I've missed and was giving you the opportunity to bring them up.
If you had responded to my first post with something like: "I know it looks pretty bad, but there are some things not noticeable to the casual fan that have happened that makes this offseason not too bad."
I would've agreed with that. But you came on here basically saying we didn't know anything because we're not Redskin fans and you made it sound like the positives far outweighed the negatives. I just don't think that's accurate, so I gave facts showed why I thought that way.
My "extensive study" of redskins boards in no more extensive than your study here, I'm sure. It's just an interest in a rival of my favorite team... just like you apparently have. And I have seen your posts on Extremeskins, and they are the most positive possible interpretation of events (and very well written, I might add). That's why I felt compelled to give the counter-point to your point. That's why I gave the most negative possible interpretation of events.
I was showing that for all of the Extremeskins positive spin... there is also a negative spin on the same subjects.
But hey, I'm guilty of putting a positive spin on everything Blue and Silver, so I'm not really one to talk... and I wouldn't expect anything else from a true Redskin fan. But at least I know that I'm putting a positive spin on the Cowboys and I wouldn't go to rival fans and tell them their viewpoints of the Cowboys are wrong, simply because they root against them. I know I'm biased and see things through Blue and Silver glasses... You spoke like you were unequivocably right and we were all uneducated schmucks who didn't know the first thing about the Washington Redskins.
