Season 5 is the weakest season for me as well, but I didn't think it was bad. David Simon just wanted to show the problems of the newspaper the same way he did with the police, the gangs, the shipyard, etc. His past was in journalism so it only made sense. The ending was great. That was one of the big things I liked about the show. The endings of each season were always great. He wrapped them up well.
