So its importance is measured not by the angst of the fan who respect this team more than casual fans or strangers.
It is measured by the one thing this game is played for.
Winning and winning championships.
Do that and ESPN will fawn over the Cowboys like they always knew they were good.
Do not and this is what you will get.

And there it is.
Many are too young to remember, but when the Cowboys were dominating the league a "short" 20 years ago the media were tripping over themselves to hang from the Cowboys' sack. Everyone from Madden to Michaels (a known Cowboys hater) heaped the praise that the Cowboys had earned. It made non Cowboys fans sick. I mean sick. It got to the point that Cris Collinsworth straight out opined that he hated the Cowboys and their winning ways. I couldn't stand Collinsworth for years after that. Atleast he was honest.
You get what you deserve with the media. Anyone remember how "anti-Labron" the media was until a short time ago? Now, they can't get enough of King James. The Cowboys have been a joke. They deserve to be treated as a joke. You know why? Because they've done absolutely NOTHING to dispel the notion that they are, in fact, a joke. I don't care how many "genius" coaches you hire, great draft trades, FA signings, and on, and on, and on you make. When it doesn't translate to a respectable product on the field, you are a joke. And, that's exactly the way we as fans and the team itself has been and will continue to be treated until the reality of being a collections of losers is transformed to being a team to take seriously.
