Star Wars geeks are just as bad. And it gets really bitter when they argue which "universe" is better. I watch for the entertainment value. If it is entertaining, I watch it, if not, well I don't. Avatar got rave reviews a few years ago, I thought it was just a boring rendition of Dances with Wolves set on another planet. The new reboot of Star Trek, with one new movie out, has been enjoyable. I just don't see the point in argueing the merits of what Roddenberry intended versus a reboot by a different writer. You either like it or you don't, lol.
