People are turned away at all kinds of clubs. Usually the ones where you have to spend a lot of money are the ones that have no problem telling someone no or making them stand in a line for 2 hours. I've been to clubs full of famous people and rich folks and those are the hardest to get into. People will always have their feelings hurt when they are told no. A lot of times it simply comes down to $$$
