They usually tier these guys anyway on the draft board. That gives you the flexibilty draft more for need, assuming that player is in the same tier.
In the case of McCoy, he was tier a full round ahead of what they had in front of them. That may have been 2-3 tiers higher...maybe more.
The only option other taking the player there is to trade down--but only if the trade at least comes close to reflecting how you have the player valued. Hard to do when they are valued way above your current draft slot.
