That's because he wasn't signed as a backup...he'll get more carries than J.Jones...you can count on it. You may see J.Jones as the 3rd down back and the 3rd quarter back, but Eddie, despite his slowfootedness, will be grinding it out as the starter. BP doesn't care if he's getting 150 yards a game or 75-80...BP wants 3 yards and a cloud of dust...he wants to convert on 2nd and 1 or 3rd and 2, and he wants a serious running threat on the goal line that makes play action work.
Eddie George has ridiculously easy to reach incentives that will almost guarantee him 2-3 million unless he gets hurt....he'd have to have a serious rebound year to earn the whole 5 million. Bottom line is we had the money...no one got cut over it...and we have absolutely no financial ties for next season.
It was a great contract because we can say goodbye after this season if we desire to....better to pay him 2-5 million for one year when you have the money than to give him a three year contract for 8-9 million and be tied to him financially after this season.
