Default Marshawn Lynch???

Say the Packers pass on him (all the mocks I've seen have the Pack taking him and Houston taking Adrian Peterson)...and Lynch is available to us when we pick...should we take him?

My thought is yes and trade away JJ.
After he and Peterson, I think there is a chasm drop off in talent at the RB position this year in the draft.
Still left to accomplish:
sign OT Winston or G Moore

If we have an opportunity to get a guy who is a top notch, complete RB - I say don';t pass it up again. It's evident now that we were fools for passing on Steven Jackson, and I'd hate to make that mistake again. That's my opinion, and it's based alot on my preference for a one dominant back system. That said, both team's playing next weekend run a two back system. So I'm probably a moron. I just can't forgot the euphoria I was feeling on draft day three years ago as Jackson dropped....and dropped.....and dropped....and how crushed I was when we traded down. I don't know nearly as much about Lynch as I did Jackson, but if he's the real deal, we have to make thta move. There's just no other position besides corner and WR where a pick makes sense for our team at our spot.

Actually all 4 teams in the finals ran a 2 back system. Very few teams run a one back offense anymore. The wear and tear on the backs is just to much, especially in the NFC East. No way do I draft a RB in the 1-5 rds when we have more glaring needs at this point. JJ and MB3 were effective this year. I would like to see that tandem at least one more year, and then make a decision.

We have bigger problems on our team that need immediate addressing. We can win a super bowl with the JJ/Barber combo IMHO.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

I think it's more because finding a guy who can handle that pounding is so rare anymore. There are precious few Jackson, Gore, Johnson and Tomlinson's in the league. If Lynch is a guy like that, I can;t say no to him. I'm a sucker for Emmitt's.

I don't think we draft an RB this year. Let Garrett implement his system, which I'm guessing will be a lot like Norv's. If so, the RBs will be used immensely. If JuJo still does't produce, then I would go after one of the top backs next year. You gotta think, JuJos problems the last few years really hasn't been him. I think it had more to do with Bill. Was Ware's problems on him, or how BP used? Something to think about.

Let's be honest. No matter how much Bill "tried to hold Ware back", Ware's talent is too great to keep from shining through. Even without the sacks, he was still a playmaker. The same can't be said for Julius. He's shredded some bad defenses, and every once in a while he has a wow game, but it's not like this superior talent is sitting there waiting to be unleashed, and that's evident on gameday. On gameday, Julius looks like what he is - a pretty average back capable of an occasional great game. Maybe in a different blocking system he'd do better, but we;ve tried at least two, haven't we?

Sooner or later that shine's gotta come off that rookie season highlight vid, where JJ torched some of the worst defenses in the league. And that's not on Bill.

I see what you're saying, but I think he was playing to not screw up and get in BP's doghouse rather than using his instincts. He did have some good games against good defenses the past couple years:

in 2006: 94 vs. Wash (even though the overall team sucked, the D was pretty decent), 100 v. Philly, 92 v. Carolina, 116 v. NO, 119 v. Seattle (playoffs). He only carried the ball 20+ times in 7 games in 2006. In the last 6 reg. season games, his highest number of carries (13) came against the Falcons. His decline in run production coincides with the collapse of the defense.

In 2005: He only had two real good games (93 v. SD an 194 v. Carolina), but he got injured during the Philly game and was out for four weeks. Keep in mind, he had 72 yards rushing against Philly before he got injured in the first half. Also, he only had 20+ carries in 8 of the 16 games.

Don't get me wrong, if someone who is better than JuJo falls into our laps, take him. But, I think the Boys and fan should give him the benefit of the doubt...at least for this upcoming season. Let's see if Garrett (and Norv if he's here) can make him produce like Gore or, dare I say, Emmitt.

Yeah, I was elated too when Steven Jackson fell to us and then bummed when we traded down.
RB's tend to slide on draft day. I also think Peterson will slide to Houston even though he's one of the top talents in the draft.
Lynch could be a slider....mainly if he slips past Green Bay. If that happens, I think he'd be there for us.
After watching JJ this year, I just really don't think he is giving us anything more than Tyson Thompson would've. There were a few times when Thompson ran that I thought it was JJ except TT ran over a person or made a move and I thought "well that couldn't have been JJ."
About Lynch though, if I remember right, I think he catches the ball pretty well, which is something JJ absolutely couldn't do at all his rookie year and still looks unnatural doing it. Lynch has the size, speed, and burst that you look for. Combined with MBIII and a new OC, would be a nice punch I think. I'm just totally soured on JJ after this season. The other thing about JJ is that he is coming off a healthy, 1000+ yd season which gives him a little bit of trade value.
Of course if GB takes Lynch...then we're probably stuck with JJ another season.
And yes we have bigger problems...but I would hope our OG position and passrusher is upgraded this offseason via FA.

You don't think the Giants would take Lynch a couple spots ahead of us?

that's a possibility too, but I would think they might be looking at DB....
esp if Leon Hall and/or Aaron Ross are still on the board...
