Default Ireland notable attendee at QB Stanton pro day

MICHIGAN STATE: MARCH 14

Quarterback Drew Stanton worked out -- we'll have the results later. Lions head coach Rod Marinelli and offensive coordinator Mike Martz were among the 45 NFL personnel in attendance, along with Ravens QB coach Rick Neuheisel, Redsksins offensive assistant Jack Burns and Vikings scout Scott Studwell. Also present were Philadelphia vice president of player personnel Jason Licht, Miami offensive line coach Hudson Houck, Dallas head scout Jeff Ireland, plus three three NFL defensive-line coaches and one NFL linebackers coach. The workout was held indoors on FieldTurf.

Player Position Gil's comments

Kerry Reed WR Reed (6-1¾, 200), who went to South Dade High School in Homestead, Fla., worked out at Miami's Pro Day in Coral Gables on March 3. He ran his 40s in 4.49 and 4.56 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.31 and the three-cone drill in 6.72. He also had a 38-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-5 broad jump.

Dave Herron LB/FB Herron (6-1, 239), ran his 40s in 4.68 and 4.67 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.42 and the three-cone drill in 7.03. He also had a 34½-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-2 broad jump and 19 bench presses. He performed drills at both positions and caught the ball well. In high school, Herron was Maurice Clarett's blocking back.

He'll go in the 2nd round. Jerry was thinking 3rd round highest for a QB. This is a due diligence type of thing in case he falls.

Lions in the 2nd if they don't go Quinn or Russell would not shock me for Stanton.

Oh please don't draft Stanton. The guy has all the pocket presence and field awareness of a three-week old baby. And has won just as many big games.

he isnt that bad...I dont love the guys game or anything, but he wasnt exactly surrounded by alot of good talent and his coach is a moron...I dont think he's a top talent or anything, but he could end up a guy who's a better pro player than college player if he gets in the right situation

I don't believe Stanton will last until the 3rd....like Mr. Jones mentioned we may look for a QB

Stanton is tough as nails
"His poise has been surprising. Against Indy, at the two-minute warning, we thought we'd take a knee. But Tony comes in the huddle and says, 'All right guys, we're gonna take a shot. We're going deep.' We're like, 'What? Game's over.' He took a knee, but for a minute he had everyone going." -Jason Witten

Interesting......I feel Beck is a better value a round or two later, though.

He wasn't surrounded by a lot of talent but there was still more than enough there to make a bowl (in an era where it seems almost every team makes a bowl game) if Michigan State were to even get competent play out of their QB. Instead, they go 4-8, finish 10th in the Big 10, all the while Stanton craps the bed everytime the pressure gets turned up on him. There's no doubt that he has the size and talent to be a Pro QB but so did Ryan Leaf and I would trust them about the same to quarterback my football team.

Gotta admit, that was pretty brutal to watch. And unfortunately that's the only game I've seen of him play. Not a good impression.

Stanton is a pretty solid QB prospect, he just has to learn to play more under control...

The Michigan State game was the only one that the defense won for the Irish all season long. Those two picks at the end by stanton were pretty sad (had to be since the Irish secondary got lit up by EVERYONE last year)
